In this episode of Unspoken Conversations with Candace, Candace talks to her good friend Jessika. Jessika was born in West Allis and grew up in Racine. She has worked at All Saints for 9 years. She started as a CNA and has worked up to being the coordinator for the medical staff office. Jessika has no children, but she has a 14-year-old Westie named Munchkin. Jessika’s story is a little similar to Candace’s. She was abused by her grandfather. But she also had an abusive stepmother. One safe place she had was her aunt’s house. Jessika has faced the truth from a young age even when her family chose not to believe her. She is on the path to self-love sharing her story. In this episode, they touched on the sensitive subject of forgiveness, and Jessika shared her thoughts on her journey while reading Candace's story.

Episode highlights:

04:18 - There is a safe spot. You just need to find it. It is hard to trust.

08:45 – Teaching it at home and definitely getting it into schools, or letting kids know in school that there is someone there that can talk to them and will listen to them, and believe them when they come forward, is a big thing.

22:30 – I think for me, what changed my mind is - I am finally ready to talk about it. I know that there are children and adult women that are going through the same thing we went through, and I want them to know that they are not alone.

28:23 – A lot of times forgiveness is more for yourself than anyone else. It’s not for anyone around you. It’s not for them. It’s for you.

37:14 – You talked more about the emotional, and the effects that it had on you. And not a lot of books, podcasts, and stories out there talk about that. They talk about abuse itself, and to understand the other aspect of the abuse for people is the emotional, and how it affects your friendships, and your family, and stuff like that.
