In this episode, Rachael and Nikki chat about the importance of thinking outside the box and looking at the big picture. This is important for everyday life situations and also for students studying a course. Being able to use critical thinking is an important tool to have.
We discussed:
- The importance of thinking outside the box
- When you’re learning about a new concentp, look at what you did understand, read it again, look up words you don’t understand to get a better understanding.
- If you still need clarification, consider if this is going to be talked about later in the course (check the next lesson title or course syllabus), is there a reputable place to search for more information?
- Once you’ve done critical thinking on the matter, then reach out for further clarification.
- The importance of health history forms for clients as they can give a glimpse into someone’s overall health
- When looking at health conditions - by looking at what essential oils are important to avoid it can also help narrow down your selection of oils to use, all the while making sure you don’t pick an oil that in contraindication to persons health.
- If you don’t know enough about a health condition, look it up and see what body systems it affects, ask the client about it as they are most likely to know about it, and how it affects their health and wellness.
- When blending, look at the big picture - what will help someone the most
- What application should be used?
- What oils to chose - taking into consideration age, application location, chronic vs acute, and more
- What carrier oil can support the blend
- Don’t overwhelm a client. Often 1-2 blends is more than enough to start
- Don’t overwhelm the body with too much essential oil either
- Remember to take the person’s personal aroma preference in mind too when possible
