Amanda Petrik-Gardner joins Dr. Tamara Soles to discuss Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors. Amanda describes the different BFRB’s including Trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder) and Excoriation (skin picking disorder). We discuss the differences between habits and BFRB’s, whether anxiety is always at the root, and how BFRBs differ from OCD compulsions. Amanda helps us understand the various functions of BFRBs including sensory, cognitive, emotional, and motor elements. Amanda also reviews the various treatment models including the most current Comprehensive Model of Behaviour (ComB Model).
Amanda Petrik-Gardner a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the states of Kansas and Maine, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the states of Colorado, Missouri, and Michigan, a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP) in the state of Nebraska. She is passionate about the treatment of anxiety disorders, OCD, and BFRBs. She helps those who experience Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Hoarding Disorder, and Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors like Trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder) and Excoriation (skin picking disorder), finally find hope and relief. She specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders including Generalized Anxiety, phobias, social anxiety, panic disorder, and illness anxiety disorder. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Kansas State University and a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas. Her training is in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) including Exposure & Response Prevention. Amanda is also trained in Inference Based Therapy (IBT or I-CBT), a metacognitive treatment for OCD and the Comprehensive Behavioral Model (ComB Model) for treatment of BFRBs.
