Travis and Jess host Steve Smith again in this part 2 episode, where they talk about the ministry of spiritual direction. At its core, spiritual direction is about companioning with someone who helps discern where God has been and is at work in one's life through intentional listening and prayer. It's really less about "direction" and more about being a witness to someone's life and story as a "soul friend." Spiritual direction is about helping someone care for their soul. It's being asked as Steve often does, "What's happening in you as you are living your outer life?"

Christianity has a rich history of spiritual direction throughout the Bible and continuing on in the early church. As John Bartunek says, "God’s normal mode of operation is to guide and enlighten us by a combination of direct and indirect action; he stirs our souls and open our minds and gives us insights, but he helps us make sense out of them through the assistance of our fellow-travelers."

Steve is Travis' fellow traveler and has been his spiritual director for over a year now. The two share insights and stories about their journey of walking out their soul friendship together through spiritual direction. Jessie also has a spiritual director and shares her thoughts and experiences throughout the episode.
