When I was working in corporate, I had this belief that a corporate job was secure. But when I was unexpectedly let go and then rehired on the same day on my eight-year anniversary at the company, it completely shifted my perspective on job security. The way I was “let go” stripped me completely naked of my dignity. I thought I had done everything “right” with mentors, executive sponsors, networking, and more. No one taught me about office politics. After I got off the phone call with the boss, I just broke down and cried. I felt one word: Shame. If someone could take my financial security away from me so quickly due to ego and office politics, why was I at this company?
