For Episode 5 I host a panel discussion at the G7 fringe curated by Real Ideas and Crowdfunder; this was a live conversation that took place on 13th June whilst the G7 summit was held at Carbis Bay in Cornwall, which has been edited for this Breakfast & Beyond podcast special.

I was lucky enough to welcome four fantastic panellists who work in the field of sustainability – Catherine Chong, climate economist and sustainability advisor at Link ESG and co-founder of Farms to Feed Us, social and environmental change-maker and Director of Permanently Brilliant Manda Brookman, Henry Morgan who is Sustainability Investment Manager at Foresight Group and Matt Hocking, founder of sustainable design agency Leap and a B Corp UK Ambassador.

As some of the most powerful people in the world, representing some of the richest countries met at the G7 (in combination, G7 countries equate to almost half of global wealth – despite representing only 10% of the global population) it seemed timely to host a discussion on the role of individual actions alongside those of governments represented by the G7, in creating a more sustainable future.

Our panel discussion took the theme: Does my breakfast make a difference? In other words, what impact can actions such as what we eat for breakfast have in creating rapid, positive change for people, and for the planet?

The panellists work in a range of sectors – from agroecology to design, community-activism and the third sector right through to global infrastructure investment, and it was brilliant to hear the range of views reflected in the discussion, which included a critique of the concept of ‘net zero’ emissions, how we should frame messaging around climate action, whether climate and social justice can be achieved within the current system, the need to move from a notion of living ‘sustainably’ to living ‘regeneratively’ .. and much, much more.

True to this podcast’s theme, breakfast was firmly on our agenda, and we were lucky enough to share a delicious, seasonal-inspired and locally sourced breakfast cooked up by chef Eden McClure, a young Australian chef who’s currently living and working in Cornwall.

Huge thanks to the supporters of Episode 5 – Real Ideas (who hosted the live discussion at their beautiful CSpace Studios in Newquay) and Pentire Drinks.
