Host(s): Chelsey Cusimano

Guest(s): Maia Szalavitz, Author of Undoing Drugs

Description: Welcome to Recovery Stories Have Power, a Faces & Voices of Recovery podcast, my name is Chelsey Cusimano. This season we’re focusing on Harm Reduction, and in episode 2 I had the chance to interview New York Times bestselling author Maia Szalavitz. Her book Unbroken Brain won the 2018 media award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). Most recently, she published Undoing Drugs: How Harm Reduction is Changing the Future of Drugs and Addiction, which was the main topic of our conversation this week. Undoing Drugs is the first history of the Harm Reduction movement, chronicling how an outcast group of people who use drugs, former users, researchers and public health geeks created and championed a policy transformation that both saves lives and illustrates the enormous power of kindness.
