There has been a rise in carjackings and crime throughout the region the last few weeks. There’s a high profile case involving 2 female teens 13 and 15 who faces criminal charges after their carjacking incident resulted in murder. Some folks think they need to be charged as adults while others think they need help and their parents should be held accountable. It’s a lot to take in so, I wanted help to get insight and a different perspective. I appreciate the opportunity to speak with friend of the show Robbie Woodland former ANC Commissioner of Ward 8 and first time guest Mike Alston former Gang Task Force Officer with DCPS. 1:19:17As of October 29, 2023, there have been 827 carjackings in Washington, DC. This is nearly three a day. In 2018, residents reported 140 carjackings, compared to 485 in 2022. DC crime data indicates there have been at least 113 arrests for carjackings so far this year, and 65% of those arrested are juveniles. D.C. has officially seen more than 200 homicides this year, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. When youth are sentenced they go into the care of The Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) is the juvenile justice agency for the District of Columbia. Last week Councilman Trayon White held a press conference after seeing the living conditions of the youth at the facility at 1000 Mount Olivet Road in NE. One of the phases he used was “inhumane”. One would question how does these types of living conditions help rehabilitate the youth if they aren’t receiving the care they need? 1:37:56It’s funny to me how we have the right to choose what’s best for us individually but, someone always has a negative opinion. Covid-19 has changed the landscape of how we conduct our day-to-day life but, we’ve made the necessary changes to get through these trying times. We have the right to take the vaccine or not and shouldn’t be looked at any different based on our decision. In today’s society tv and media will try to suppress the truth and push their agenda even if it means discrediting someone. In the “closer” Dave Chapelle in his own way took a look at how our misunderstanding can make a major impact on how we treat each other. I don’t speak on sports too often but, my guest gave me the idea and now I’m running with it! 1:03:08I found it interesting the last couple of weeks to see posts on Facebook saying it sometimes takes years to figure out that some folks were never your friend! It was something that caught my attention and made me think to myself why it would even take years to figure out? The word Friend is used so loosely among other words but, there’s a clear difference between a friend and associate and people will show you with their actions what they are to you. We have to be paying attention in order to differentiate between the two as we navigate through life and certain situations with these individuals. I’m not saying that for some this isn’t true but, I really don’t think it should take years to figure out who’s with you and who’s not! I also wanted to acknowledge the disparity of media coverage and resources that people of color get compared to white people specifically women! It wasn’t something that I was paying attention too but, missing white girl syndrome is real and it’s definitely something to think about! #therealtalkpodcast…

54:47The District’s police chief stood Friday on one of the corners most emblematic of D.C.’s recent development boom, surrounded by a circle of more than 40 people with dozens of concerned questions. A day after a gunman opened fire outside a restaurant on 14th Street NW, leaving two people injured and forcing dozens to duck for cover, residents and business owners on the tony corridor wanted to know: What are District leaders doing about the rising tide of gun violence? Chief Robert J. Contee III spoke to the group bluntly: “It’s getting the attention that it’s getting now because it happened where it happened.” Where it happened is one of the city’s trendiest neighborhoods, a potent symbol of the city’s renaissance over the past 20 years, with condos and restaurants replacing auto shops and quality-of-life crimes in the area. D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) had rushed to the scene the night before, telling reporters she was “outraged” after yet another act of gun violence. But amid a surge in shootings and recent high-profile incidents across the city — such as last week’s gunfire outside of Nationals Park and the killing of a 6-year-old girl in Southeast earlier this month. There is pressure on the two-term mayor and her administration to do something. I got together with my brothers and business partners of T.Y.P.E. INC. to talk about the DMV’s gun violence problem. I thought it was a great way for us to start sharing with the public who we are and what we want to do. I appreciate the men we are today and I hope we can provide programs and services that will impact our community in a positive way. #therealtalkpodcast…

1:32:22Dating today can be challenging. We were all raised differently, and individuals govern their lives based on the their morals and values. Many of us are set in our ways or dealing with past traumatic unresolved issues, which frequently can hinder us from communicating and meshing with others. Dating starts with compatibility, physical appearance, and attraction. We are usually drawn to the opposite sex's appearance, physical features, and personality. Though we are attracted to the outer appearance, men and women are not always compatible. Relationships are, in fact, built on a variety of things, including trust, communication, physical attraction, preferences, and what we bring to the table. Those factors do not always equal compatibility. In the infamous words of Alicia Keys, “Some people think that the physical things define what's within.” That couldn’t be further from the truth. Relationship expert/matchmaker and founder of The Help Meet Club joined RealTalk with The6thman on Clubhouse to share some of her tools used for matchmaking and to answer questions from those looking to gain more insight into the world of matchmaking and dating based on compatibility and law of attraction. The HelpMeet Club founder, Shaneeka McCray, Certified Matchmaker & Law of Attraction Coach, provides dating services for professional singles. The HelpMeet Club offers a wealth of services to support your relationship goals. https://thehelpmeetclub.com/ The conversation was powerful and enlightening, to say the least. The Real Talk family shared personal experiences as to why they may struggle with opening up to new people and experiences. Some also shared past traumatic experiences that have been a hindrance in allowing the opposite sex into their personal space. Finding the most compatible person is not the easiest thing to do. Buckle up and enjoy the ride on this enlightening conversation that covered many areas of dating. #therealtalkpodcast…

1:02:38I would like to believe that being a Black Female Entrepreneur is impactful and encourages other women to do the same! I was granted the opportunity to speak with 3 powerful women doing their thing in the community! Until recently black women have largely been left out of the narrative of dream chasing. Thankfully, over the past decade, things have shifted. From 2007 to 2018, the number of black women-owned businesses increased by 164%, more than 3x the rate of women-owned businesses. As often heralded, today black women are the fastest-growing group of entrepreneurs in the US. Unfortunately, wealth gaps and lack of funding available for minorities continue to contribute to the inability of so many black folks to audaciously dream. On average, White Americans have seven times the wealth of Black Americans. Since 2009, black female founders have received only .0006% of the $424.7 billion in tech venture capital funding. And yet, when I look around, even with the chips stacked against us, black women are thriving like never before. Taking a page from the black power movement that swept the country in the 60s, today black dream chasers have stopped depending solely on the validation or patronage of the majority. Instead, black people have found ways to inspire, financially support and provide access and education to one another. The fact is: black women are still playing a rather wearisome game of catch-up in the entrepreneurial space. Let’s she what these ladies have to say about it! #blackgirlmagic #therealtalkpodcast…

44:10Venus and Mars repeat their cycles and patterns and this one will echo back to 1985, in which many of us were still playing with our Barbies and G.I. Joes happily oblivious to any sort of relationship drama. But the question for us to ask is: Even as children, were we already becoming conditioned for a specific pattern of relationships? For many of us, we need to work through certain lessons and areas of relationships in order to actually move ahead into a more healthy and balanced partnership. Basically, we have to walk through the darkness in order to get to the light. If we doubt our worthiness when it comes to unconditional love and acceptance then we will continually attract those people who challenge us to love ourselves deeper. Yet, likewise, once we finally step into a place of clearer focus about who we are and the goals that surround us, we will be able to welcome that conscious healthy love into our lives. Mars likes to do, preferably now, and is very action-orientated. Venus, on the other hand, is more subtle and discriminates about what she does or doesn’t like. Their polarity is what actually achieves their balance. No one wants to be with someone that is just like us and it’s this energy that Mars and Venus remind us of. A man doesn’t fall for a woman because of how masculine she is; rather, he falls for her shining sense of femininity, and the same is true for women. Our expectations can get the better of us when we expect more than what is realistic in a given situation. We might expect our partners to live up to what we see in romance films, our jobs to be idealized versions we had as children, or even our lives to match up to what we see on Instagram. Our expectations can create significant stress when they don't match up to reality. Also consider how social media can greatly contribute to this: we compare our own worst moments (those not deemed to be shareable online) to others' best moments, which very often are filtered to seem perfect. We may not even realize this mismatched comparison. It's important to take a deeper look into how your expectations stack up to reality (and how your mood is affected because of this). #therealtalkpodcast…

1:47:232020 has started off as a deadly year in the District of Columbia, with nearly 30 homicides in the first three months alone. Wards 5 and 6 have seen the bulk of the year's violence to-date, with seven homicides apiece. Ward 8 had seen five homicides to-date, including, as of March 3, the city's two most recent homicides. One of those was the murder of 13-year-old Malachi Lukes, which was caught on a nearby home's doorbell camera. As of the beginning of March, D.C.'s homicide rate was running on par with 2019, and well ahead of 2018 and 2017, which ended February with 17 and 14 homicides, respectively. As of March 3, only seven of the city's 29 homicides had resulted in arrests. Metropolitan Police Department Chief of Police Peter Newsham said the city is on pace to have the same number of murders in 2020 as in 2019. Last year there were 166, which marks a 10-year high. Of that total, 58 of the victims were under the age of 24, 153 were black and 154 were men. “We’re unnecessarily losing people to gun violence,” Newsham said. So far this year, there have been 68 gunshot victims. Last year there was a total of 690. As for the suspects of the crimes, 92% had prior arrests. The average number of arrests they had was 10. Half were gun-related and 59% were for violent crimes. “We want to ensure that small group of repeat violent offenders are held accountable. I think we’ll be able to impact that homicide number we’re seeing,” Newsham said. In a city convulsed by Black Lives Matter protests and experiencing a surge of deadly violence, the Fourth of July cookout was supposed to be a small step forward. The family-focused event was organized by Crystal McNeal, whose job as a city “violence interrupter” means she spends her days with some of the District’s most hardened criminals, mediating disputes and trying to persuade them to put down their firearms. Davon McNeal 11-year-old was fatally shot after the anti-violence cookout. Christopher Brown 17 years old and father of 2 (1 child otw) was killed in the mass shooting in the early hours of Sunday morning. 20 others wounded after mass shooting at cookout in Southeast DC including an off duty police officer who’s still in critical condition fighting for her life. 1:12:12This week's episode captures the spirits of two Washington Redskins fans. They have witnessed the glory days of a once proud football franchise. They have seen this team win three championships(83, 88 and 92) in a 10-year span. They have attended live games at RFK Stadium where they jumped on the hydraulic bleachers, echoing a noise throughout the Nation's Capital, making the Redskins one of the most feared road teams in league history. The6thman and special guest Darren have also seen their share of disappointments under the Daniel "DAMN" Snyder regime. From hiring coordinators before head coaches, to Steve Spurrier resigning from the golf course to now a team that is literally nameless and marred with major sexual harassment allegations, The6thman and Darren discuss all things burgundy and gold, reflecting on the team's greatness, how it became the laughing stock of the league and what can be done to restore this organization's image. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the latest installment of "RealTalk with The6thman. #therealtalkpodcast #httr…

1:03:56Everyone wants to be authentic. You want to be true to yourself, not a slavish follower of social expectations. You want to “live your best life,” pursuing your particular desires, rather than falling in line with whatever everyone else thinks happiness requires. Studies have even shown that feelings of authenticity can go hand in hand with numerous psychological and social benefits: higher self-esteem, greater well-being, better romantic relationships and enhanced work performance. But authenticity is a slippery thing. Although most people would define authenticity as acting in accordance with your idiosyncratic set of values and qualities, research has shown that people feel most authentic when they conform to a particular set of socially approved qualities, such as being extroverted, emotionally stable, conscientious, intellectual and agreeable. From a psychological science standpoint, a person is considered authentic if she meets certain criteria. Authentic people have considerable self-knowledge and are motivated to learn more about themselves. They are equally interested in understanding their strengths and weaknesses, and they are willing to honestly reflect on feedback regardless of whether it is flattering or unflattering but, a number of studies have shown that people’s feelings of authenticity are often shaped by something other than their loyalty to their unique qualities. Paradoxically, feelings of authenticity seem to be related to a kind of social conformity. It’s no need to fake just be who you are! #therealtalkpodcast…

45:47A sense of crisis enveloped the capital of Virginia on Thursday, with the police on heightened alert and Richmond bracing for possible violence ahead of a gun rally next week that is expected to draw white supremacists and other anti-government extremists. The three men had obtained guns and discussed traveling to Virginia for protests against new gun control measures officials said. Members of numerous armed militias and white power proponents vowed to converge on the city despite the state of emergency declared by Gov. Ralph Northam, who temporarily banned weapons from the grounds of the State Capitol. The potential for an armed confrontation prompted fears of a rerun of the 2017 far-right rally that left one person dead and some two dozen injured in Charlottesville, about an hour’s drive from Monday’s rally. For weeks, discussions about the rally have lit up Facebook pages and chat rooms frequented by militia members and white supremacists. Various extremist organizations or their adherents are calling Monday’s rally the “boogaloo.” In the lexicon of white supremacists, that is an event that will accelerate the race war they have anticipated for decades. One of the men, Patrik J. Mathews, 27, a main recruiter for the group, entered the United States illegally from Canada, according to the officials. He was arrested along with Brian M. Lemley Jr., 33, and William G. Bilbrough IV, 19. Mr. Mathews was trained as a combat engineer and is considered an expert in explosives. The Canadian Army discharged him after his ties to white supremacists surfaced. Mr. Lemley previously served as a cavalry soldier in the United States Army. The F.B.I. has grown increasingly concerned about the Base as it has worked to recruit more people. The group encourages the onset of anarchy, according to the Counter Extremism Project, an organization that tracks far-right extremists. Experts say that its founder, an American, appears to be living in Russia. I’m just informing y’all that we’ve gotta pay attention and get prepared for the worse! #realtalkpodcast…

1:29:55Breaking the barrier for diversity in sports in the NFL, NBA and MLB were incredible feats. Sports have the power to create social change and they’ve done so throughout time. As a microcosm of human interactions, sports challenges us to interact with others. And often, those we encounter are quite different in many respects. Diversity in sports involves not only players having different sets of skills but also players having differences in beliefs, opinions, and experiences. Diversity exists everywhere. However, just because diversity exists, it does not mean that inclusion follows. Acceptance of each other’s differences is a starting point. But true inclusion occurs when the benefits and advantages of diversity are recognized and pursued. Diversity in sports has been a driver of positive social change for many decades. And sports continue to represent a microcosm where social issues are confronted. Nevertheless, it is ultimately those bold enough to stand up for diversity and inclusion that make the real impact. #realtalkpodcast…

2:15:50There comes a time for each of us when we get the opportunity to make significant change in our lives. We sometimes get side tracked with everyday responsibilities and we tend to operate business as usual not identifying the change needed. Change ain’t easy but, it’s very possible by first recognizing the changes needed and making the decision to change while trusting the process to change. “We all are either headed into a storm, going through a storm or just gettin out of a storm”. The significants of this cycle is vital because as we enter the storm there’s a particular change that requires effort and action in order to activate a shift in our mindset to prepare and equip us to get through the storm that’s forming! Trusting the process is the key component that allows us the ability to make the change regularly. The process will consist of a lifestyle change that will allow us respond and not react in particular situations. This is the choice that you’ve made to “be better than you were yesterday” keeping that changed mindset active. No matter our current situation we control our mindset and we have to make the decision to be better not just for ourselves but, for or families and communities where we live. I speak from a long list of life experiences and storms which a lot of them I created. I wanted to blame others for my short comings but, in real life I couldn’t. Living the “street life” was my decision and most of the lessons I’ve learned were extremely difficult not only for myself but, my entire family and core group of friends. I now have the opportunity to change the narrative and share my life experiences which are hopefully relatable and helps someone else change their mindset. I just see my life differently now and I feel obligated to share my testimony in hopes it makes an impact bigger than I could imagine. As we come to the close of 2019 the simple fact is if we want better we've got to step out of what's comfortable and just Do better! It’s been a year of up’s and down’s but, It’s been a great one regardless! I’m looking forward to 2020 and making SixSense Entertainment and RealTalk with The6thman household names! I’ve been told that being friends first is a must as you begin to explore that special someone. Respect, Communication and Honesty are key components to a successful relationship. We can learn a lot from a couple who’s been married for 30 years. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to sit down with a couple who breaks down some keys to a successful marriage. 1:14:06Officers arrested a Maryland high school teacher who got into a fight with a student Friday morning, police say. Vivian Noirie, 36, got into a physical altercation with a 17-year-old senior inside a classroom at Largo High School, Prince George's County police said. Police say the teen was upset with Noirie for contacting their parents the night before and the teen went up to Noirie, stepped on her foot and bumped into her with her shoulder. Noirie then repeatedly struck the student before other employees at the school stepped in to break up the fight, according to police. Once the two were separated, the student grabbed Noirie from behind and repeatedly struck her before being separated a second time, police said. Noirie was charged with physical child abuse and second-degree assault, police said Saturday. Detectives are pursuing charges against the student, who was not identified. It’s clear it’s a lot to this story and teachers don’t have an easy job. We can’t be so quick to judge because we don’t know the back story. I’m interested to see how this plays out and curious to see what punishment the student will receive in regards to the kicks and punching she have the teacher along with allegedly spitting on the teacher in a previous incident. #realtalkpodcast…

The documents which include police reports and interview summaries, paint a detailed picture of the last hours of Crawford's life and say that Jordyn Jones, Crawford's roommate, and Jones boyfriend Barron Brantley confessed to investigators. Jones told police that she asked Crawford to take her to a liquor store at around 11:30 p.m. October 30, according to a police report. Hours later, Crawford and Jones, were "engaged in a physical altercation," Jones told police, according to another report. The boyfriend got involved and, "As a result of the physical altercation, Barron Brantley choked the victim until she was deceased," the same report states. Jones was a close friend who had spent holidays with the victim's family, a family spokesman said Sunday. Jones spent at least one Thanksgiving and Easter holiday with Crawford's family over the past few years, the Rev. Markel Hutchins told CNN in an interview. Jones, who is from Michigan, and Crawford, who was from Athens, Georgia, started as freshmen together at the university, he said. 59:04Treating people in a positive manner that acknowledges them for who they are and/or what they are doing. Being treated or treating an individual in a dignified manner. Respect is earned and is never just given but, you must give respect to receive respect. Meaning when you interact with an individual you treat them with dignity and in a respectful manner as this shows your character as a person. And the respect will be reciprocated. You must always behave in a respectful manner as this reflects on you, your character, integrity and values of who you are as a person. No one owes you respect until you have earned it, so there is no such thing as I will give it after they give it to me first. That attitude is a disrespectful action to anyone you interact with as it insinuates that you do not trust them to act accordingly, and implies that they "owe" you respect before you will give it. That will cause people to LOSE respect for you or never gain it in the first place. When you first meet someone, everyone is given the benefit of the doubt that they are a respectable individual. Questioning their integrity(respect) before you have even met them and "expecting" respect to be given without giving it yourself is insulting and condescending to that person and is judging them in a negative light when you know absolutely nothing about them and at the end of the day in order to get respect, you must give it period! So respectful behavior should just be part of how you act as a person 100% of the time period point blank! #realtalkpodcast…

1:32:33We all have a goal in mind when it comes to home ownership or fixing our credit. We tend not to have the right mindset because of the lack of knowledge and educational resources. I wanted to change that by sitting down with my man Marc Blair Broker and Owner of Own Real Estate. Marc was licensed in since 2003 and he had taught many homeowners how to become financially independent and debt free! He knows what he’s doing and why it works, and even better, he knows how to transfer his knowledge to other agents and brokers so they can replicate his success. Why Own Real Estate? When Marc developed the agent compensation and support package for Own Real Estate, he did it with the goal of creating a hybrid real estate office where agents would receive all the support necessary to help them achieve success from the beginning of their career to retirement, and agents would also get to keep 100% of their commissions. Marc doesn’t believe success in real estate takes a long time to achieve, and he is passionate about training and coaching agents to quickly achieve their goals and live the lifestyle they want to live. Marc provides agents a treasure map to success so agents get business quickly and go from average to top producer in weeks instead of years. 1:37:18Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental health condition. However, mental illness affects everyone directly or indirectly through family, friends or coworkers. Despite mental illnesses the reach, prevalence, stigma and misunderstanding are also unfortunately widespread across the country. That is why each year, during the first week of October NAMI and other participants across the country raise awareness of mental illness. Each year, they educate the public, fight stigma and provide support each year the movement grows stronger. Domestic and family violence occurs when someone in an intimate or familial relationship attempts to gain and/or maintain power and control over another through a wide range of abusive behaviors. A single act may amount to abuse. Recently I found out a friend of mine was involved in a domestic violence incident where the result was him and his wife ended up deceased. This was the main factor for having this conversation about mental health and how it’s affecting our community everyday! 1:13:50Mental Health is a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being. Mental Health is the state of someone who is "functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioral adjustment”. I’ve had the pleasure and set up a few interviews with some everyday folks that want to help me engage this topic while they share their personal struggles with mental health. It’s important to pay attention to the warning signs and not being afraid to speak with someone you trust about it! I will devote the next few episodes strictly to mental health so we can get a better understand of why it’s 1 ok to acknowledge it and 2 getting professional help to guide you through! Y’all be safe, be easy and be better than you were yesterday! 💚✌🏽 #mentalhealthawareness #therealtalkpodcast…

1:21:23A potential factor to consider in reaching Black male youth is recruiting Black men to serve as mentors in order to provide Black boys with successful models from their community. Multiple assessments have been conducted to understand the barriers for African-American men serving as volunteers in youth mentoring programs and the impact is real. Marc Williams started a mentorship program called Young men of Promise and his guest speakers serve as role models as they introduce participants to an alternate blueprint for how to successfully live their lives. Both formal and informal mentoring have the potential to benefit Black boys in a range of areas, including academics, social-emotional well-being, mental health and preventing risky behaviors such as having sex and selling drugs. Group mentoring approaches seem to support Black male youth’s social-emotional development through group processes. This process may be facilitated by connecting Black male youth with mentors who have shared life experiences engaging Black men as mentors has the potential to be useful in this regard. I’m proud of the work Marc is doing up a Bald Eagle Recreation Center for all these years! According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, an act of domestic violence occurs every 15 seconds in the United States, with four women losing their lives daily. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. The term “domestic violence” includes felony or misdemeanor crimes of violence committed by a current or former spouse or intimate partner of the victim, by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common, by a person who is cohabitating with or has cohabitated with the victim as a spouse or intimate partner. The ongoing anxiety, depression, emotional distress, eating and sleeping disturbances an physical symptoms, such as headaches and stomach aches. This impacts children the most and we’ve got to let women know it’s ok to talk about it so, they can get the necessary help. National Domestic Violence Hotline can help victims, survivors of domestic violence. Call 1-800-799-7233. You can chat w/ an advocate on their website. There are are few resources in our area such as The Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence and National Network to End Domestic Violence. #therealtalkpodcast…

1:32:14Growing up in Southeast, DC graduation was an successful achievement and a milestone all together. It was the moment life got real and you had to have a plan on what was next or figuring out if being in the streets was worth your time. There were a lot of tough lessons learned in the streets and on the flip side it taught many of us the fundamentals of business. It taught you critical thinking, money management and building relationships. The barbershop was a safe space and give some guys a way out from the streets and an opportunity to legally make money safely. It also sparked that entrepreneur spirit allowing guys to move away from the streets and becoming legitimate businessman. With that being said I thought James who’s the owner of Jagr’s Barbershop and Hunger for Love apparel would be a great spokesperson for this conversation being an entrepreneur overcoming adversity and understanding his impact in the community with young men of color. I truly appreciated the opportunity to chop it up with a fellow Ballou Knight who’s making a difference! #therealtalkpodcast…

1:09:18In a relationship there are specific rolls that each partner has to play out based on what they’ve communicated to each other. As time goes on things change either for the better or the worst and now the work begins. In most cases there’s a blame game being played as each partner is blaming the other for the issues in the relationship. The bottom line is as men we’ve got to hold ourselves accountable for our actions and not get involved with that game if we really want to self-identify with what the root causes of the issues between you and your partner. I was able to sit down with a long time friend I’d consider family and he shares his story about making a come back from a bad break up. It was interesting to me because I too had a bad break up that ended in divorce so, I could relate to a lot that he went through. I wanted to show that no matter what the situation is there is light at the other side of the tunnel it’s just a matter of how you go about reaching the other side! Holding yourself accountable for your actions that impacted your partner needs to be addressed. Reconciliation is not easy but it’s necessary in order to free yourself and move on. Going through a break up is never easy but, be honest with yourself as you go through the process and you will come out of that storm healed, stronger and wiser with a new outlook on life. #therealtalkpodcast…

1:22:52Recognized as an All-American at the University of Florida, Hernandez was drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Alongside teammate Rob Gronkowski, he formed one of the league's most dominant tight-end duos, becoming the first pair of tight ends to score at least five touchdowns each in consecutive seasons for the same team. He made one Super Bowl appearance in XLVI. During the 2013 off-season, Hernandez was arrested and charged for the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional player who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancée. Following his arrest, Hernandez was immediately released by the Patriots. He was found guilty of first-degree murder in 2015 and sentenced to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center. While on trial for Lloyd's murder, he was also indicted for the 2012 double homicide of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, but he was acquitted after a 2017 trial. Days after being acquitted of the double homicide, Hernandez was found dead in his cell. His death was ruled a suicide by hanging. His conviction for Lloyd's murder was initially vacated under the doctrine of abatement ab initio because Hernandez died during its appeal but, it was reinstated in 2019 following an appeal from prosecutors and Odin Lloyd's family. After his death, Hernandez was diagnosed with severe chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which may have affected his actions and emotional stability and may have been a contributing factor in some of his criminal behavior. It just goes to show no matter your economic status mental health needs to be addressed! #therealtalkpodcast…

1:16:46In my lifetime it’s been a few people who’ve past away and it’s impacted me to the point I just stopped going to funerals. I understand it’s a way of life but, some deaths are harder to deal with then others. While on my recent birthday vacation in Tulum, Mexico I got news of the helicopter accident with Kobe, Gianna and seven other people including the pilot. I didn’t want to believe it was real at first but, after 15 min shit got real. It was all over the media outlets confirming the incident was real. I was in disbelief and at a lost for words looking back how much of an impact Kobe made in the NBA and professional sports overall. While trying to come to terms with that I found out about a incident where a PG Police shot a man in his cruiser that was handcuffed. I was pissed when I first saw the article on Fox 5 then to find out it was a friend of mine it made me upset! William “Boo-Boo” Green was a childhood friend and didn’t deserve this at all. It’s been a long eye opening week! I want to send my heart felt condolences and prayers to the Bryant & Green Families. I’m praying that God gives then the strength they need to get through this difficult time! 🖤🙏🏽 #realtalkpodcast…

I’m never one to be critic on kids experimenting to see what they identify with but, I do think society has to be cautious how things are presented to them. As a parent there has to be a conversation with an open mind and understand to ensure fully that the kid is comfortable with their decision. The other conversation about how to deal with people in society handling their decision will be important as well. I know we all have different views depending on how we were raised and what we individually believe in. At the end of the day these will still be our children and we have to show then love no matter what but, how does that conversation look? Let’s see. #realtalkpodcast…

1:50:03Incarceration in the United States is one of the main forms of punishment and rehabilitation for the commission of felony and other offenses. This is the US incarceration rate for adults or people tried as adults. The total number of persons in U.S. adult correctional systems was an estimated 6,613,500. From 2007 to 2016, the correctional population decreased by an average of 1.2% annually. By the end of 2016, approximately 1 in 38 persons in the United States were under correctional supervision. In 2018 2.2 million Americans have been incarcerated, which means for every 100,000 there are 655 that are currently inmates. This costs the United States government $80 billion dollars a year.…

48:25Although drunk driving incidences have reportedly declined by half over the last thirty years, drunk driving remains a serious problem in Maryland and in the United States. The most effective way to comprehend the nation's lingering drunk driving problem is to acknowledge some of the sobering statistics: In 2015, nearly one-third of all traffic related deaths in the United States involved a drunk driver in 2015. On average, one person in America dies every 51 minutes in a drunk driving crash. Approximately 800 people are injured each day in a drunk driving accident, about one person every two minutes. Two-thirds of people are involved in a drunk driving collision at some point in their lifetimes. In October of 2016, the Maryland General Assembly passed "Noah's Law," named after a Montgomery County police officer who was killed by a drunk driver during a traffic stop. With the passage of this legislation, enforcing stricter drunk driving penalties including usage of an ignition interlock device, Maryland's drunk driving laws are among the toughest in the United States. Still, the statistics show that Maryland's rates of injury and death in drunk driving incidences continues to hover around the national average.…

It may be used to refer to anyone who is non-heterosexual or non-cisgender, instead of exclusively to people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. To recognize this inclusion, a popular variant adds the letter Q for those who identify as queer or are questioning their sexual identity; "LGBTQ" has been recorded since 1996. Those who add intersex people to LGBT groups or organizing use an extended initialism LGBTI. The two acronyms are sometimes combined to form the terms LGBTIQ or LGBT+ to encompass spectrums of sexuality and gender. Other, less common variants also exist, motivated by a desire for inclusivity, including those over twice as long which have prompted criticism. At some point we all have to think outside the box and try something new you’ll never know what may work unless you try. Relationships are what you make them and nobody can tell you what your situation should look like. Life is too short not to be happy and finding that person that does that for you is rare. Thinking outside the box and trying something new you might be surprised what you might like. Keep it spicy! LOL #realtalkpodcast…

41:35It’s been 3 incidents in the last 4 months of young black males being detained and handcuffed. The AG says their office will review the departments practices. We keep hearing that police departments are making an attempt to bridge the gap between the community and police. These 3 incidents show that the gap is still wider than some might think and that respect needs to come from both sides. The long term effects on these young men will be real and will need positive reinforcement on a regular basis in order to get a positive result. The young people are our future let’s be better for them! #realtalkpodcast…

1:05:27It’s a story that’s told all too often and still gets over looked. The epidemic of fatherless children is real in our community and the trauma and concerns attached to it is real too. Black men are becoming more extinct everyday all over this country and the job of raising these young black men has fell into the hands of his mother! Almost 70 of black males are born out of wedlock to single black mothers. This is a job that becomes so frustrating at times giving up becomes an option because it gets so hard without the adequate help and resources needed to complete this task day in and day out. I wanted to get a real life perspective from single mothers looking at how the frustration sets in and overall concerns during this on going process. #realtalkpodcast…

1:05:06Gun control policy is one of the issues of the decade. The debate goes on in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) as to if firearms is more of an asset or a liability. D.C. doesn’t have gun shops to purchase firearms but does allow residents to obtain a gun in other states as long as they follow the proper procedures. Virginia is very lenient in their rules and even has an advocacy group fighting for the removal of gun control laws. Maryland has pretty stern regulations on owning a gun. Even with such strict restrictions on guns, Maryland routinely ranks among the most dangerous states in terms of violent crime statistics. DC is on record pace with 33 homicides year to date. In the mist of recording we got the news of Nipsey Hussle being shot 6 times then finding out he passed away from his injuries. It was sad to get the news but, went to the topic of discussion. I was fortunate with speaking with two educators as we have a discussion on the dynamic of education in this country. We looked at the statistics of 77 percent of private school grads complete college on time, compared to 64 percent of public school grads have some finical and economic challenges to graduate on time. There’s a difference of opinion and many variables come into play in regards to making a decision on our kids education. Trade school should be advertised more and secondary education is good but, now it’s just not enough. Taking inventory of what the kids want to do should be done earlier on in middle school to put them on the right path for secondary education after high school.…

1:37:23The impact of current events are at an all time high because of the National attention some of them receive. Amber Guyger was sentenced to 10 years in prison last week after she was found guilty of murder in the shooting death of Botham Jean, a 26-year-old accountant. Guyger said she walked into Jean's apartment last year thinking it was her own and shot him she believed to be an intruder. This story had gotten a lot of buzz and people are still scratching their heads at the actions of the family, a bailiff in the courtroom and the judge who sat on this case. The treatment Amber received is hard to understand based on the type of treatment blacks are receiving everyday. The impact is deeper than folks think and the younger generation needs our help now more then ever. They are upset and the speak out but, it gets them in trouble because they are not aware of their action in most interactions with each other and law enforcement. The conversation about ways to help the young men/women is ongoing and will be a conversation that needs to continue along with meeting them where they are and having real dialog with them so, we can figure out a way to help them. I was fortunate to turn my life around and I want them to know they can do the some. 2:27:10DescriptionCalifornia Senate Bill 206, also known as the Fair Pay to Play Act, is a California bill that will allow collegiate athletes to acquire endorsements and sponsorships while still maintaining athletic eligibility. The bill would affect college athletes in California's public universities and colleges. The Act is a game changer in college sports. It makes it illegal for California colleges to deny their student athletes opportunities to gain compensation for the use of their names, images and likenesses. Stated more concisely, the Act guarantees college athletes a right to profit from their identities. Just weeks after the California state legislature unanimously passed a bill that would allow student-athletes to benefit off their name, image, and likeness, a New York state senator introduced a similar bill that would require colleges to pay student-athletes. Last week, New York State Sen. Kevin S. Parker introduced Senate Bill S6722A also known as the “New York Collegiate Athletic Participation Compensation Act.” Just like California’s Fair Pay to Play Act, the bill proposes to give college athletes the ability to sell the rights to their own names, images, and likenesses. The New York bill, however, goes a step further. Should it be passed into law, college athletic departments would also be required to divide a 15% share of their annual revenue with all student-athletes. House Bill 251 was officially filed by Kionne McGhee (D) in the Florida House of Representatives. Similar to its predecessor in California and other bills starting to go through various state governmental procedures, the Florida bill aims to prevent the NCAA and colleges from blocking student-athletes from receiving compensation for the use of their likeness or name. These types of bills won’t take effect until 2023 but, now three states are on board and the NCAA is officially on notice. #realtalkpodcast…

1:03:55An Orlando school resource officer who arrested two 6-year-old children on the same day last week was fired Monday amid growing outcry, officials said. Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolón said Dennis Turner, who had been suspended after the incidents Thursday at a charter school, did not follow the department’s policy requiring approval from a supervisor for any arrest of a minor younger than 12. Police declined to identify the two children who were arrested or disclose details about their cases, only noting that the young boy and girl were both charged with misdemeanor battery in separate events. The charges against the children have been dropped and state attorney Aramis D. Ayala said Monday that her office never intended to prosecute. “I refuse to knowingly play any role in the school-to-prison pipeline at any age,” Ayala said. “These very young children are to be protected, nurtured and disciplined in a manner that does not rely on the criminal justice system to do it.” Police said they were called about 6:45 p.m. Friday to the gas station on Brighton Road for a report of a fight between the male gas station owners and two female customers. During their investigation, police said an argument over spilled gas led to the fight. The women said a pump malfunctioned and demanded a refund. The owners refused, and the argument quickly turned physical. One video recorded by a witness showed the men who own the gas station repeatedly hitting one of the women in the back of the head while another man grabbed the other woman by her hair and dragged her across the pavement, police said. The gas station's security cameras inside the store show the women initiating the argument. Police said investigators filed paperwork for assault charges against the gas station owners and employees to the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office. #realtalkpodcast…

1:06:47The mayor ordered flags with 51 stars to line up and down Pennsylvania Avenue bringing attention to DC Statehood! I’m really confused about her priorities when you have MPD officers shooting and killing young black male residents with no accountability being taken! In 2018 Mayor Bowser spent 5 million dollars for the body camera program however, she has stripped the body camera program of any benefit to the residents of our community by giving the MPD complete control of the body camera footage. As a result, MPD regularly refuses to release 99% of the body camera footage when requested. MPD has denied families access to the footage in every single high-profile police killing in 2018. On June 12, 2018 Marqueese Alston was shot 15 times and the family had to wait 12 months to see 5 mins of altered footage of the incident! The families of D’Quan Young and Jeffery Price are among those who have been denied access to body camera footage related to their killings by MPD. I’m truly concerned with Mayor Bowsers priorities as well as the lack of accountability and transparency from MPD’s Chief Newsham I’m regards to these police involved shootings. In stead of focusing on DC Statehood why can’t the conversation be about police brutality which is the core of these shootings. There needs to be an implementation of law that mandates the city to release all body camera footage in a police involved shooting not being concern with statehood! We want justice for all the families that have endured so much pain in the loss of a family member meanwhile these officers are still on the job being paid and not accountability being taken against them. 1:11:54I met Jackie & Wayne Carter a few months back in the Bliss FM studio when I was invited to be a guest on Radar Radio with Mike Lee and Suzie Official. The Carters are one of the coolest couples I’ve met in a long time and the vibe was just right! They talked about a movement that they started in 2016 called “Not Reaching”due to the spike in police shootings during traffic stops. ”Not Reaching” is a solution to the fatal traffic stops experienced particularly by young, minority males throughout the country. “Not Reaching” is a revolutionary identification system that allows motorists to remain stationary in their vehicles during a traffic stop by eliminating reaching for identification by the request of law enforcement. “Not Reaching”is a start to a safe traffic stop and helps to de-escalate a tense situation. The device comes off the air vent providing easy accessibility for law enforcement - no more reaching! It eliminates the uncertainty and danger of reaching for your required documents: driver's license, registration, and insurance card. Clips to your air vent for easy access during a traffic stop. #realtalkpodcast #notreaching…

And cancel culture advocates who took aim at his personal friends, like Kevin Hart and another A-list comic he was good friends with “before he died in that terrible masturbation accident.” Then there’s the easily offended “alphabet people,” his shorthand for the LGBTQ community, particularly, as he says, the “confusing” Ts. 1:00:44“Jay-Z” Carter will soon acquire a “significant ownership interest” in an NFL team, reports TMZ, making him the first black person to be an owner in the league’s history. The team itself was not disclosed, but a source told the site that the deal is imminent and that Carter “wants to continue to be a change agent for the NFL”—the old, change the system from within, while of course profiting, which rarely works out because, by the time you look up, you’re Robert Johnson. During said presser, Jay did not do well when repeatedly asked about former NFL player Colin Kaepernick, who has been effectively blackballed from the league for kneeling for black lives during the 2017 NFL season. He defensively responded to questions about Kaepernick with statements such as: “I think we’re past kneeling...I think it’s time for action.” Jay previously owned a share of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, in which he purchased a $1 million stake in 2004, but even that deal was controversial in that many believe it sped up the hyper-gentrification tearing up his beloved, native Brooklyn. Jay has long been in the sports realm, and founded Roc Nation Sports management in 2013, which has signed players such as MLB’s Robinson Cano, the NBA’s Kyrie Irving, and the NFL’s Dez Bryant and Saquon Barkley. TMZ reports that because Jay is not “an NFL agent and does not take part in the operations of the NFL players in Roc Nation,” his interest in Roc Nation Sports would not preclude him from owning a team. Oh, and back to Kaepernick (because until he’s signed, it’s ALWAYS going to come back to that); Jay said during the Wednesday press conference that he spoke to Kaep, but Kaepernick’s longtime girlfriend Nessa Diab contradicted that. Kaepernick himself did not comment directly on the deal but tweeted that that very day marked the three year anniversary of the first time he took a stand (in this case, a seat) against “systemic oppression.” What’s really good? #realtalkpodcast…

1:08:06Washington, D.C. has more at-risk youth than almost every state in the nation, according to a new study looking at "idle and disconnected" youth across the U.S. The report, which was released Wednesday by WalletHub, cites poverty and homelessness among other factors going into that number two ranking. It shows Louisiana is the only state with more at-risk youth than D.C. The report ranked the District second in the nation in youth drug use, first in youth poverty, first in homeless youth and sixth for youth detainment and incarceration. Despite this alarming statistic I still believe our youth have a chance to succeed through mentoring and organized sports. It is believed that youth having a positive role model such as a mentor helps them in developing interpersonal skills, increasing self-confidence, community involvement, and teaches valuable skills such as goal-setting and decision-making which improve academic and career performance. They find more self-confidence, self esteem, and are able to create big goals for themselves. Additionally, studies show that behavior, attitudes, and relationships improve when a youth has a mentor. ... Being a mentor is a rewarding experience that allows us to be the person our younger selves needed. Mentoring is important, not only because of the knowledge and skills students can learn from mentors, but also because mentoring provides professional socialization and personal support to facilitate success in graduate school and beyond. Quality mentoring greatly enhances students' chances for success. #realtalkpodcast…

1:03:00A opinion is a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge. A fact is a statement that can be proven true. An opinion expresses someone's belief, feeling, view, idea, or judgment about something or someone. Facts are statements that can be shown to be true or can be proved, or something that really happened. It’s ok to voice your opinion about a certain situation or topic but, that doesn’t mean someone will see your opinion as valid. Someone else can disagree with you and share there viewpoint. It’s funny how when this happens people feel attacked. The bottom is if you can’t handle others not seeing eye to eye with your opinion without feeling like they are attacking you then you need to keep your thoughts to yourself. We have different opinions based off our pasts experiences and we all aren’t going to see certain situations the same way period point blank. 1:02:13LBD Socials was established in September 2011. It was initially a means for a variety of women to come together off common terms to celebrate one another. This was their opportunity to step outside their normal everyday roles and enjoy simply being a woman; to delight in the presence of their fellow woman who just like them were mothers, professionals, wives, care takers, and entrepreneurs alike. They started with the concept of the LBD Socials because every woman has that staple "LBD" (Little Black Dress) that makes them feel sexy and powerful. They began with a dinner of 6 friends and matured over the years to an event honoring Breast Cancer survivors in 2015, which brought together over 130 women and men. They decided to “take a break” from doing the larger events and turn their focus to the community aspect of their initiative. LBD has some amazing volunteers that makes it all feasible. They have joined forces with several other groups providing support with food and toiletry drives, in addition to getting out and serving the community one meal at a time. LBD has been serving at Calvary Women’s Services in Washington, DC for 5 years now. Calvary Women’s Services empowers women and helps them get out of homelessness. Calvary provides transitional and permanent housing services to women that enables them to make lasting changes in their lives. Calvary also provides therapy, mental health services, employment and educational services to assist the residents with obtaining the necessary life skills and education to obtain and maintain gainful employment through their Step Up and LEAP programs; another jewel in the city. #realtalkpodcast…
