Our desperation drives us to Jesus. But when we come to him we find Jesus’ deliverance goes far deeper than we can ever imagine! In Mark 2, we see Jesus’ deliverance in the healing of the paralyzed man with a far greater act of healing by forgiving his sins. This is a challenge for us to recognize our inherent brokenness of sin and absolute need for a savior. When we come to Jesus in that humble desperation, he gives us wholeness beyond what we ask for.
“When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven.’...‘But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.’ So he said to the man, ‘I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.’ He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, ‘We have never seen anything like this!’”
