Breast Cancer Is The Second Leading Cause of Cancer Death Among Women In The United States
Every two minutes, a woman in the US is diagnosed with breast cancer. In a room full of eight women, at least one of them will likely be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime.
This will likely impact someone that you know very well, and possibly even you!
Why should you get a mammogram?
You will find the answer to this question and so much more in this special episode of the Marked Medicine podcast.
Breast cancer screening has been proven to lower the death rate by 26%. Almost 2/3 of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer are diagnosed at a localized stage which yields a 99% survival rate. So screening does work!
In this episode, Mrs. Patti Elliott, a breast cancer survivor, joins us and details the importance of screening and early detection, and details how that likely saved her life. She is also very honest about the fact that she is lucky to have had a very strong support system throughout her journey, but she witnessed firsthand that this is not the case for all women. Patti is able to share the importance of supporting women who are battling breast cancer from the point of view of a woman who has walked this journey. Her compassion for women that she met during her journey is palpable, and this is definitely a story that you don't want to miss!
Mrs. Lou Hennesy, who is a member of the Alpha Theta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi in Douglas, Georgia, also joins us in this episode. This groups is also nicknamed "Douglas is Passionately Pink!" She shares the reason that this group of women is passionate about raising awareness for breast cancer screening, and she details all that her group is currently doing to raise money for the women in her community who are currently battling breast cancer.
