Out of all the wonderful things you’re doing in life, this one thing might just be what is most needed today
Thank you for calling GIH where we instigate growth one call at a time where we utilize antiquated technology to deliver 3-minute leadership lessons every week day! This is message #190 and I am Aaron Havens.
It’s November 15, 2024. That means it’s Fri-Yay! The day I don’t make my bed. A day I have given myself permission to be less structured and have a little more fun with life. Whimsy. Play. Laughter. I run hard after life. I super enjoy working and I could do it nearly all day everyday. In my “downtime” I usually find myself dreaming about a future project or working on less pressing future projects. It’s calming for me to work, when the work isn’t due yet.
So I speak to me and all you grinders today. Focus on these 3 P’s! Give yourself Permission to Pause and Play. And by PAUSE, I don’t mean future projects or catching up and just moving your computer from the office to your couch. Nah. Actual pausing. Going for a walk, sleeping in, playing guitar, cooking a fun meal, doing something that is considered play for you. And don’t justify work as play. I do that all the time! Picking up the house while listening to music is not play.
Mark Black says it well, "Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is relax”.
Our bodies are remarkable machines that can accomplish crazy feats and can push impressively beyond limits. And undoubtably you are a driven person that is pushing hard. You go big. Good job! I’m impressed. We are all impressed. AND, like a powerlifter taking breaks between sets to let the oxygen build back up in their body, can you please do the same? This week you’ve probably lifted a lot of weight. Today might be a good time to give yourself Permission to Pause and Play!
Thanks for calling in today. Tune in tomorrow for the weekend edition of Growth Instigator Hotline. After the beep, does downtime cause you to get agitated? Do you have a hard time relaxing? Why might that be… would you mind unpacking that a bit for me after the beep?
