Today is Christmas 2024, but as we discuss in the episode, the holiday season is much longer than Just Christmas to New Years, and even longer than Thanksgiving to New Years. With the extended holiday season comes a rise in depression, stress, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. This includes, in some of the more severe cases, seasonal affective disorder.
Ana Murby co-hosts this episode with me, sharing why she is called "The Grinch" in her family. This involves discussions around holiday nostalgia, miscommunication, childhood trauma, and divorces. Also, the expectations that can be placed on us as parents and children.
I share why I used to be affected more by the seasonal changes, as well as my story of constant Christmas disappointment due to the fictionalized power given to Santa.
Ana and I also address, briefly, some of the issues with Christmas and the holidays in relation to Christianity.
We end the episode with the Book Of Esther, and how I am celebrating Purim from now on, and how that traditionally Jewish holiday can and should be celebrated by Christians.
