A contranym is a word that serves as its own opposite. (How does anyone ever learn English as a second language?) This week we’ll discuss whether being “finished” means completing your work or leaving it incomplete; whether “cleaving” is tying something together or breaking something up; whether being “bound” assures you of being mobile or being stationary; and whether “to wear” is to endure the hardships of the world or to be destroyed by them.
