Episode 083 - SOLID ROCK TRUST Writer/Director Rick Ives
Manage episode 346203138 series 3178509
This week, we’re talking to filmmaker Rick Ives, and though may be a newcomer to the director's chair, he's learned that good storytelling depends as much on strong pacing as it does on strong narrative thanks to his time spent as part of the editing staff for Marvel Studios on shows like Loki, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and Ms. Marvel.
That knowledge paid off as Ives completed his first solo feature film, the unnerving heist thriller Solid Rock Trust (which he wrote, directed and distributed via his production company Flashbulb Films). You can already rent or buy it on Amazon Video, and the movie will later be available on services like YouTube Movies, Tubi, IMDB and Google Play.
Set almost entirely in one location, Solid Rock Trust stars Koko Marshall - in one of the most remarkable performances I've seen in any movie or TV series this year - as Maddie, an expert criminal who coordinates a complex bank robbery that initially runs like clockwork as she deceives, persuades and manipulates a corps of disparate thieves.
Yet the carefully planned job falls apart as Maddie’s fake identities are uncovered, and as her team's mission soon turns into a bloodbath. Once she's confronted by her estranged lover and heist team member Rowan (played by Alexander Hearth), Maddie must choose between love and money - and the consequences of her choice could destroy them both.
Now I'm honored to welcome Rick Ives to talk about how his incredible debut film went from script to screen on this week's Viewfinder Podcast.
