In this episode, I talk about the incredible King Tides we’ve been experiencing here on the coast of Ecuador. These massive tides have been reshaping our beaches, causing destruction to local vendors’ setups, and leaving their mark on the shoreline. I also share an interesting email from a listener who asked about potential connections between volcanic activity in Hawaii and these tidal surges. Using insights from Darby, my go-to research assistant, I explain the science behind King Tides, breaking down how the Sun, Moon, and Earth’s alignments, along with local geography, create these dramatic events. Plus, I give my thoughts on tsunami preparedness here in Manta and address some common misconceptions about the causes of King Tides.
