Shawn Still joins us to help us pay our respects to Bruce Thompson, Georgia’s Labor Commissioner, who passed away on November 24th at the age of 59. Known for his tireless dedication to public service, Thompson’s career was marked by a passion for empowering Georgians through innovative labor policies and economic opportunity.
Thompson built a legacy as a successful entrepreneur and small business owner, excelling in the insurance and financial services industries. His business acumen laid the foundation for his public service, as he sought to improve the lives of Georgia's workers and employers alike.
Thompson was first elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2013, representing the 14th District, where he served for a decade before being elected Labor Commissioner in 2022. During his tenure, he championed efforts to modernize the Georgia Department of Labor, streamline unemployment services, and promote workforce training programs to address the evolving needs of the state’s economy.
Beyond his professional achievements, Thompson was a devoted family man and community leader, deeply involved in civic and charitable initiatives. He is survived by his wife, Becky, his children, Faith and Max, his adopted father, Dr. Austin Flint, his brother, Jason Sluggett, and his sister, Tonya Bruce. His legacy of service, innovation, and compassion will long be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
