PBO Emissions Cap Report is Flawed: Another Parliamentary Budget Officer Report Misses the Mark 11:33

The PBO emissions cap report is as ridiculous as a report on the costs to the economy of requiring seat belts in cars that does not account for any of the benefits of having seat belts in cars. It also comes as ultra-rich corporations in the U.S. are being given free reign to pollute as much as they like. Canada can, and must, be different – for practical and economic reasons. Most Canadians (65 per cent) agree that Canada should invest in renewable energy instead of fossil fuel developments. A majority of Canadians (62 per cent) agree that Canada should maintain its climate commitments independent of the United States administration’s decisions, including its withdrawal from the UN Paris Agreement on climate. - As of March 10th, 2025 according to polling by Leger . We must not lose the progress we have made in reducing corporate pollution. The Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer ( PBO ) report on the emissions cap is out and we outline it’s flaws in this week's podcast episode. Brahm was the regional organizer for the CUPW’s Delivering Community Power campaign - which was organized by workers pushing for a greener postal service. We discuss food security lessons from personal experiences in the Yukon and, on an unrelated note, share the audio version of our past webinar with the Yukon Conservation Society on their Yukon South Beringia Priority Place initiative. The Priority Place spans 89,000 square kilometers between the Ogilvie Mountains to the north and Dezadeash Lake and Carcross to the south. Because it was never (or only occasionally) glaciated during the ice ages, it is home to some of the oldest landscapes in Canada and contains a variety of unique and endemic species, some of which are found nowhere else on Earth. For anyone concerned about how climate change will impact our ability to feed ourselves we share some advice on how to make our food systems more resilient in the second half of today's episode. They are calling for the Canadian Government to enact an emissions cap on oil and gas corporations. That emissions cap is now out in draft form as of yesterday. We also get into the new policy, how it looks, how it can be strengthened, why it needs to be implemented rapidly.
