2 Thessalonians - Chapter 1
Manage episode 436759306 series 3437881
This is Paul's second letter to the church at Thessalonica, which was probably a few months after his first letter. Paul started the church there, but then he had to leave due to persecution, so his first letter was sent with Timothy to make sure that the church was still growing. In this second letter, Paul is thankful that they are still growing in love for each other and their faithfulness to the Lord even in the midst of persecutions and trials. He reminds them that their suffering is making them "worthy of the kingdom of God." He also tells them that someday, God who is just, will deal with the persecutors, and "for those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord, it will be a day of wrath and fire." Then Paul tells the church that since they believe in the Lord Jesus, they will be glorified and marvel at what Christ has done. Chapter one ends, "With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of His calling and that by His power He may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ."
