An Ceòl ar Feadh na Fèinne - The Music of What Happens
Manage episode 454113831 series 3541704
I'm delighted to bring you a very special podcast today, showcasing an incredible project I had the privilege to be part of. In January 2023, I spent an unforgettable week at the stunning Crear Centre in Argyll, Scotland, collaborating with a talented group of storytellers, musicians, and singers from Scotland and Ireland - Mairi MacMillan, Mhairi Hall, Martainn McIntyre, and Eamon Doorley.
This inspiring project was organised by TRACS (Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland) with the generous support of Colmcille and Bórd na Gáidhlig. Together, we explored Laoithe na bhFiann—the Fenian Lays: a treasure trove of poems, songs, and stories about the Fianna, which were once sung and recited across every county in Ireland. Also known as Ossianic ballads, these lays have deep roots in Scotland as well.
While the melodies associated with these lays have all but disappeared in Ireland, they remain widely preserved and celebrated in Scotland.
Find out more about this fascinating exploration in the podcast—enjoy!
