Freedom from the Torment of the Middle Ground
Manage episode 398389142 series 3551694
This episode is being released at the same time as the "God Does It, and We Help" series - we encourage you to listen to these three episodes together, they are closely intertwined.
The promise in verse 21 of Acts 2 is absolutely true. But there's something weird that happens sometimes in evangelism. People say something to the effect of "I called on the name of the Lord, but I'm still in my sin." Or "I called on the name of the Lord, but I'm still angry and hostile."
Essentially, I tried that but it didn't work.
In reality, the heart and the mouth need to be in the same place. Romans tells us, "with the heart man believeth unto righteousness." If that person in their will goes with God, honestly wants Jesus as their Lord, out of their heart erupts this confession, this crying out, coming from a heart that has already believed. Then the heart and the mouth are in the same place. If the mouth is saying something but the heart is somewhere else, the Lord does not honor that. There can be no middle ground.
Acts 2:17-21
17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
NEW BOOK! I'm pleased to say that we have completed a new book that has been years in the making. The Ten Shirot: Songs of Redemption looks at ten songs that were sung through pivotal times in Scripture. It's an examination of the redemption of Jesus, of worship, and of Scripture in a way that we believe you probably haven't seen before. Check it out at https://a.co/d/0a4KIooL .
