Welkom bij deze aflevering, waarin we het hebben over technologie in de landbouw. De afgelopen 100 jaar hebben we enorme veranderingen gezien in hoe we voedsel produceren. Deze veranderingen hebben ervoor gezorgd dat we nu allemaal te eten hebben en dat er bijna geen boeren meer nodig zijn. Hoe is dat precies gebeurd?

Laten we beginnen met mechanisatie, een van de grootste game-changers in de landbouw. Tractors en machines hebben het werk van tientallen, zo niet honderden, boeren overgenomen. Waar je vroeger een heel dorp nodig had om een veld te bewerken, doet één boer dat nu in zijn eentje met een machine. Dit was de eerste grote sprong voorwaarts in de landbouw.

Maar mechanisatie is slechts een deel van het verhaal. Kunstmest en pesticiden hebben ook een enorme impact gehad op de productiviteit.
