Like many EOMs, Mark Taylor joined his family’s business “in the breach” to solve a business problem on what he thought was a temporary tour of duty (a year or two). Fifteen years later he has just successfully completed the renewal of ReadingPlus’ management team for its next chapter, and it’s stockholder recapitalization bringing in a great fit new majority owner who is energized and capable of supporting the management team’s view of the next stage of growth for the company. He candidly explains what caused him to have an “awakening” and realize that he needed to fully own the leadership role of the business (which became a turning point for the company) before he could position it for its ultimately long term sustainable impact on the lives of millions of kids—and positive impact on all the other stakeholders as well.
