Saraab-e-jannat mein masroof they hum So engrossed in the mirage of paradise were we
Qazi ki nazar se posheeda har qadam At every step invisible to the powers that be
Khoon ki qurbani to de chuke hum/qasam Bonds of blood we did sacrifice as well
Ab pahuch gaye dehleez-e-jahannum Now here we stand at the gates of hell
Sahraa banaa sahaaraa, iska nahi tha gam
The desert turned refuge, dismayed we were not
Par qafas-e-khanjar mein taaze huay zakham
But that cage of daggers reopened wounds we'd forgot
Kahaan libaas - tameez ke shaukeen, besharam?
Where once we were fashionable, dignified, clean
Ab dekhne-sunne ki mehaz ban gaye misaal hum
Now we remain but an example, to be heard and seen
Tehreer-e-taqdeer se haare mohtaram The writ of fate has dealt a fatal blow
Dard-e-duhaai ab huaa madham Our painful pleas now drowning out, slow
Gardish-e-wajood mein fanaa beraqam This existential struggle has us destroyed, bereft
Khwaaish-e-khaaliq se qissa mukhtatam And now ending this story is all that's left.
