Manage episode 314635504 series 3234654
Last week we saw that Zacchaeus was a little man who out of his sense of shame sought power through wealth, even the expense of his own people, to satisfy his heart's desire for meaning, significance and worth. He had to have money to silence his shame and to be significant. But then Zacchaeus has an encounter with Jesus and suddenly we see a heart overhaul. The fundamental needs of his heart had been satisfied. Meaning, significance and security had been satisfied, guilt was gone, shame was covered.
This week dives deeper into the problem of shame. Shame drove Zacchaeus' vindictive pursuit of power and wealth. It’s shame that fueled this worship disorder. The strongest and most destructive addictions at core have been those that are driven by a deep sense of shame. So what is shame? How does it drive addictive behavior? And what can be done about it?
