When a young Eva Kollisch arrives as a refugee in New York in 1940, she finds a community among socialists who share her values and idealism. She soon discovers ‘the cause’ isn’t as idyllic as it seems. Little does she know this is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to activism and her determination to create radical change in ways that include belonging, love and one's full self. In addition to Eva Kollisch’s memoirs Girl in Movement (2000) and The Ground Under My Feet (2014), LBI’s collections include an oral history interview with Eva conducted in 2014 and the papers of Eva’s mother, poet Margarete Kolllisch, which document Eva’s childhood experience on the Kindertransport. Hey Small Wonder Fans, Angela Bowen here, the host of She's A Small Wonder: A Small Wonder Podcast. Today, I covered Season Episodes 5-8. S4E5: Come Fly With Me, which aired on October 22, 1988. In this episode the Lawson's accompany Brandon and Harriet on a flight to Florida (business reasons) when their flight is hijacked. Art Linkletter guest stars. I thought this episode was clever and humorous in some scenes. S4E6: Love At First Byte, which aired on October 29, 1988. In this episode Vicki falls for a computer program called L.E.S., that Ted installs in the family computer, unaware that L.E.S.'s growing attraction to Vicki takes a possessive and controlling turn, leading the family to take drastic measures to save Vicki. S4E7: The Sheik, which aired on November 5, 1988. In this episode, Ted and the family entertain a Sheik who intends to do business with the Robotics company that Ted works for, however when the Sheik sets his sights on marrying Vicki (to go along with his 4 other wives) this kid is 13 BTW, Ted has to decide if he can save Vicki from a lifetime of servitude (like she doesn't already have that with the Lawsons) marriage to a 13 year old boy or risk a business venture between his company and the Middle East. S4E8: Togetherness, which aired on November 12, 1988. In this episode the Brindles and the Lawsons compete on Beat Thy Neighbor, a gameshow. This was a fun episode. Hey Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of She's A Small Wonder: A Small Wonder Podcast. It's 2025 and I'm hitting the ground running with the first four episodes of Season 4. Today I covered S4E1: Divided We Stand, which aired on September 17, 1989. In this episode The men and women camp separately, who has the better survival odds? Listen to find out. Bland start to a new Season especially with it being the final Season of the show. The last two season openers gave us Season 2 Chewed Out and Season 3 Woodward and Bernstein, gave us don't miss this episode vibes, this one was major weak sauce, middle of the season filler episode. S4E2: Double Date, which aired on September 24, 1988. In this episode Jamie, Vicki and Harriet have double dates. Typical being into two places at once double date scenario. It was funny and more going on. S4E3: The Gang's All Here, which aired on October 1, 1988. In this episode, Jamie and Vicki join a gang. Speaking of the episode Chewed Out, we get Adam Rich (Eight Is Enough fame) playing a bully of the Screaming Skulls gang instead of Pete, the guy who introduces Jamie and Reggie to chewing tobacco two Seasons ago, the only different is Adam Rich's mullet has gotten longer and stringier. Gross! and the last episode S4E4: Rashomon, which aired on October 15, 1988. In this episode the Lawson's along with Brandon and Harriet are invented by the Robotics Company president to this health spa and the kids and Brandon encounter a bugler. Then we are treated to 3 different versions of what happened and then we see what really happened, thanks to Vicki. I hope you enjoy the four episodes and I'll be back in February with the next four. Hey Everyone, Angela Bowen here the host of She's A Small Wonder: A Small Wonder Podcast. Today I the final two episodes of Season 3, S3E23 Safety First, which aired on May 14, 1988. In this episode Brandon claims injury from Vicki's Heimlich maneuver. I had high hopes for this episode especially when Joan told the class they would learn the techniques of performing life saving procedures in class like CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver. We didn't see any of these demonstrated by the students instead we get a lame play about accidents in the home acted out by Reggie, Vicki and Harriet even though she doesn't go to their school but got special permission from her school to participate in the play. and S3E24: When You Hear The Beep, which aired on May 21, 1988. In this episode Jamie starts an answering service for his friends. After most of Jamie's classmates gets grounded from using the phone he decides to charge the kids for an answering service that he and Vicki create. Today, I covered S5E15 Be Yourself, Free Yourself, which aired on June 2, 2020. In this episode Kimmy causes trouble for DJ and Matt when she fills in for their ill receptionist at the vet clinic. Steph feels guilty when she realizes Jimmy has been more considerate than she has lately. Jesse is on a mission to find out who bit his daughter, Pamela, at school. I thought this episode was kind of weaksauce. It was kinda just ok for me. and I also covered S5E16: The Nearlywed Game, in this episode The kids get together to host a game show, The Nearlywed Game, that they live stream. It tests how well the couples know each other - and what they really love about each other. I'd have to say this episode is a Season 5 favorite for me and aside from the holiday episodes that I re-watch yearly this one is also on occasion in rotation from time to time, because it's so fun and enjoyable to watch. Today, I covered S5E8: Five Dates With Kimmy Gibbler, which aired on December 6, 2019. In this episode Ramona introduces Rocki to Ethan and she suspects that they already know each other, Lisa Loeb turns up in DJ and Matt's veterinary clinic which draws Steph to get Lisa to listen to a song she wrote. This was a funny and cute episode. Love Steph's song and also Ethan and Rocki pretending that they don't know each other and they used to hang out. I also covered S5E11: Three Weddings and a Musical, which aired on June 2, 2020. In this episode while Steve babysits, DJ, Steph and Kimmy head to a wedding expo and wind up walking the runway. Jackson and Ramona audition for the school play. The wedding dresses were horrible looking (IMO), triple weddings/triple the drama, but I loved the plot with Jackson and Ramona and the musical, Jackson sounding like Josh Groban. In this episode Matt and Gia need DJ to notarize their marriage license even though Rocki objects, Gia gets invited to have a Mom's Night Out with Steph, DJ and Kimmy, the guys have a Dudes Night In, while the girls are out. I enjoyed the guys night in, more than the girls night out, I'm not into dance offs and or dancing with the stars. Steve, Matt and Fernando and Jimmy hanging out was so fun. and I also covered S5E5: Ready Player Fuller. In this episode, DJ and Jackson bond through a video game which was DJ's secret until a face to face playoff and the grand reopening of Uncle Monty's runs into a bunch of snags. I really enjoyed both these episodes, the family coming together to help have a good grand re-opening for Uncle Monty's and DJ and Jackson spending time together, even if she's pretending to be another gamer to get closer and bond with her son. Hey Fuller House Fans, Angela Bowen here, the host of Oh Mylanta Holy Chalupas: An Unofficial Full House Fuller House Podcast. Today, I covered S5E2: Hale's Kitchen, which aired on December 6, 2019. In this episode DJ and Steve take a cooking class. Meanwhile, Stephanie has a hard time keeping a promise to Max. Ramona falls for the cute food delivery guy. I thought this was such a fun episode, we get to meet Ethan, such a sweetie who falls for Ramona, and Stephanie and Max bonding time when she brings the Renaissance fair to Max when she can't take him to the actual one, due to her taking care of baby Danielle. DJ super got on my nerves and annoyed me this episode, her competitiveness was next level to the point where I think even Steve had had enough of her. and also I covered S5E3: Family Business, in this episode, Jackson accidentally sends a bad post to Ramona's new boyfriend from her phone, Fernando has a crisis at the start of the Formula One Season after his retirement, Max is trying to do his first high dive. Let me correct this Jackson/Ethan/Ramona plot. Ramona accidently likes one of Ethan's old Instagram pics on her phone and now she thinks Ethan is going to find her a bit on the stalkerish side for scrolling through and liking his old IG posts. Jackson makes matters worse by commenting on it. Honestly Ethan is just confused that she liked one of his childhood photos and then unliked it, which sent him a notification. He's a totally super chill dude. The start of the family buying Uncle Monty's Sub Sandwich Imporium. Season 5 has honestly gotta be one of my favorite Seasons of the show. In this episode the gang tries to get their magic back with an 80s themed party and celebrated the 30th Dadiversary with Danny, Joey and Jesse as well as a major surprise from Kimmy. We also have a surprise guest star. This was a fun and sweet way to wrap up Season 3 and get us pumped up for Season 4. Speaking of Season 4, I also cover S4E2: The Big Night, which aired on The pressure is on for DJ and Steve to have the perfect date. Stephanie puts a hold on Kimmy and Fernando from being affectionate. Jackson struggles with Rocki on whether they are boyfriend and girlfriend or not. I really enjoy DJ/Steve 2.0 and Jackson and Rocki are so adorable together. I love how she makes him work for their relationship. She's not about labels and he's all about define the relationship. Hey Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of She's A Small Wonder: A Small Wonder Podcast. Today I covered, S3E19: I'll Drink To That, which aired on February 20, 1988. In this episode, due to Vicki's mishandling of terms, Child Services Officer Mrs. Fernwald thinks Ted is an alcoholic and threatens to take Vicki away unless he joins AA. I thought this episode was just ok, I wish it had more meat to the episode like an after school special type simular to what we got in Season 2's Chewed Out episode. I just feel so much more could have been done to make this a better episode, raise the stakes a little bit. Mrs. Fernwald, the woman who is too obsessed with this family, she's practically a stalker, going so far to barge into their home on an unannounced visit because she happened to just be in the neighborhood and pawing through the Lawson's trash looking for evidence to comdemn the Lawson's as unfit parents. Is she like this with every family who's case she's assigned? If I were them I'd have the DCFS do an investigation on her, if she even works there. Who really knows? and I also covered S3E20: Big J, the D.J., which aired on February 27, 1988. In this episode Vicki imitates Lyle Alzado to help auditioning Jamie. This was a kinda fun episode, granted we are introduced to a new character Ida Mae, Brandon's sister. She's just annoying, not Brindle level, but I guess they needed someone to replace Bonnie who is apparently away taking care of her mother for a week.
