Welcome to Episode 2090, where we present a session recording from the wine2wine Business Forum 2023. In today's episode, we delve into the sustainability of the screw cap & co. with Walter Massa, Emanuele Sansone, Luca Dal Lago, Guido Stecchi
Italian Wine Podcast is proud to be a media partner of wine2wine Business Forum and we are pleased to present this series of market focus sessions, recorded during the Forum held in Verona in November 2023.
wine2wine Business Forum is an international wine business event, held annually in Verona, Italy since 2014. The event is a key annual reference point for wine producers and wine professionals from around the world, providing an opportunity to network, develop and expand their wine business worldwide.
About the session:
Viticulture, especially when it is aimed at obtaining quality wines, is now among the agricultural practices with the least impact on the environment. Even the process of obtaining the processed product - i.e., wine - currently poses a relative threat to eco-sustainability. From packaging to waste disposal, particularly plastic, the wine world proves virtuous. However, no human intervention is completely neutral on nature. Winemakers and wine producers in general must therefore also do their part to improve the situation.
This session offered by the 5T Academy will outline some initiatives that producers can embrace in order to contribute to a more sustainable wine industry. Innovations in glass processing, for example, today make it possible to produce lighter bottles with the same strength as those made of heavy glass.
Moreover, a more sustainable environmental impact can also be achieved by abandoning the cork - which is a physically perfect closure, but biologically and chemically uncertain - in favor of the aluminum screw cap. The latter gives the same quality prerogatives, ensuring the preservation of the wine and facilitating the opening and re-closing of the bottle.
