The life of faith requires seeing what is real but what isn't visible with the naked eye. Sometimes what must be seen is true but can no longer be seen, like the death of Jesus. Or what cannot be seen because it hasn't yet happened, like the return of Christ. Scripture helps us see these things and form our lives around them. This is the purpose of the closing vision of Ezekiel (ch. 40–42). God showed to Ezekiel Jerusalem. But it wasn't the Jerusalem that then existed; that was overgrown rubble (see Neh. 1:3), like an old house with broken windows and a sagging or collapsed roof. Ezekiel sees a new house. And it was real even if it was not physically present. Understanding and applying Ezekiel's vision can help us live by faith not by sight.
