Community is a varied and difficult thing to pinpoint when discussing the vast span of humanity, and finding ways to empower them and the members of those communities. We felt compelled to do more and do so to affect real change for those of us most adversely affected by the affliction of poverty. We were blessed with the harmonic voices and soul necessary for a revolution, Mikayla Torres - Kizzy Satchel - Sojirn. Treated to the masterful awe inspiring art work of visionaries, put in our seats with dynamic spoken word kaigetsu; and finally given message and knowledge with a live conversation: special co-host Ramel J. Wallace, and guests Dr. Lawana Firyali Richmond, & Quantal Langford.
All parties involved in the event spent the night exposing their privilege and utilizing their talent to bring attention and awareness to a community in plight; us. We are far removed from the natural ability to live a life of health, love and interaction without the encumbrance and interference of a capitalistic system they charge us for human rights. We discussed the parallels to an antiquated monarch system, of kings and beggars, touched on the connections between all of us as humans, and denounced stigmas applied to individuals that are journeying through an unprivileged life. We undressed the erroneous nature of limited resources, and concentrated on the different methods that we as individual representatives of the community; can implement to become ambassadors of Humanity.
