Unlike previous encounters, Paul’s encounter in the city of Lystra does not result in conversions. Instead the people hail the apostles as Gods, and despite Pauls explanation of the truth continue to engage in their sinful behaviour. Though Paul’s encounter with the citizens of Lystra may initially appear to be nothing but a mess, the text reminds the church of three key truths regarding the purpose of the Gospel, evangelism and the worlds rejection of the Gospel.
