Welcome back to America's leading higher education law podcast, EdUp Legal - part of the EdUp Experience Podcast Network!

Today's program features Anthony Niedwiecki, who started as President and Dean at Mitchell Hamline School of Law in 2020. Prior to that, he was dean and professor of Law at Golden Gate University School of Law from 2017-2020. Dean Niedwiecki brings with him a wealth of experience teaching at additional law schools, commercial litigation experience, and service in the elected position of city commissioner and vice mayor of a city of 40,000 in south Florida. Dean Niedwiecki is passionate about law and civil rights, and he is dedicated to improving the community and transforming lives, and helping to address the racial reckoning occurring in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Mitchell Hamline is located. Mitchell Hamline School of Law recently announced creation of the Center for the Study of Black Life and the Law, which will be a repository for both theory and policy on how laws and legislative proposals affect Black life.

Dean Niedwiecki also discusses their hybrid delivery option for the J.D. degree, and the unique Prison-to-Law Pipeline that would establish the first ABA-accredited juris doctorate and paralegal degree opportunities for inmates. He shares the statistic that recidivism drops with every degree earned by inmates. He also discusses alternative licensing options to the Bar Exam, which he notes has racist roots in its developmental history. Learn more about Dean Niedwiecki, Mitchell Hamline School of Law, and his predictions about the future of legal education.
