CD#1624 Led to Lead - Becoming a Leader by Serving
Food 4 Thought:

Matthew Henry went to London, met a young lady of the nobility, who was also wealthy, and they fell in love. She went to ask her father if she could marry him and he said, "He's got no background, you don't know where he's come from." She said, "Yes, I know, but I know where he's going and I want to go with him."

First of all we must know all of God’s children are called to lead others forward to the Lord Jesus Christ! Stats tell us the average Christian Church in 2024 the male / female ratio is 39% male to 61% female! Praise the Lord for faithful Christian ladies in the Body of Christ! But men it's time to step up in God's call and anointing and be led to lead!

*TEXT Mark 10:42-45 (KJV) But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. 43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: 44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. 45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Here we see how Jesus felt about the role of true leadership came from an attitude of being a servant! Servanthood is not about position or skill. It’s about attitude. Leaders seek ways they can add value to others, and the primary way they do it is by serving them.

God’s view of leadership is servanthood. The way to become a leader is first to become a servant. So before we take the role of leadership we must learn how to serve. Our Lord and Savior gave us the perfect example of leading by serving! In the Gospel of Matthew alone look at where Jesus taught us to:

*Matthew 4:19 (KJV) And he saith unto them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.

*Matthew 8:22 (KJV) But Jesus said unto him, Follow Me; and let the dead bury their dead.

*Matthew 9:9 (KJV) And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow Me. And he arose, and followed him.

*Matthew 16:24 (KJV) Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and Follow Me.

*Matthew 19:21 (KJV) Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and Follow Me.

Here we have 5 different times and peoples that our Lord and Savior taught us to “Follow HIM”! Being a leader isn’t just about standing on stage and preaching a sermon to a room filled with people. You don’t have to lead worship or even stand in a spotlight. You don’t have to go to Bible school or know all the right answers. All you have to do is follow Jesus.

Sermon Illustration:

At one time Andrew Carnegie was the wealthiest man in America. He came to America from his native Scotland when he was a small boy, did a variety of odd jobs, and eventually ended up as the largest steel manufacturer in the United States. At one time he had forty-three millionaires working for him. In those days a millionaire was a rare person; conservatively speaking, a million dollars in his day would be equivalent to at least twenty million dollars today.

A reporter asked Carnegie how he had hired forty-three millionaires. Carnegie responded that those men had not been millionaires when they started working for him but had become millionaires as a result.
