STORY 1: What's Next for the Holly Springs Town Center
The Holly Springs Town Center's parking deck is set to be completed by year-end, marking the first finished structure on the site. The deck will have three levels and 323 spaces, with facade work starting mid-October. An amphitheater is in the design phase, with construction bids expected soon and completion by spring or early summer. New city hall design bids are due by January, with construction starting in spring 2025. The Walton Communities' residential project will begin mid-2025, followed by office, retail, and restaurant spaces. Additional townhomes and single-family homes are planned, alongside a new roadway to improve traffic flow, with overall completion by 2026.

The organization is notifying all affected parties and encourages following their Facebook pages for updates. STORY 3: Hot Dog Luncheon Benefitting Seniors Postponed to Oct. 3
The annual hot dog luncheon by Cherokee County Senior Services and Stand Up For Seniors has been postponed to October 3 due to Hurricane Helene. Originally set for Friday at the Cherokee County Senior Center, the event will now take place next Thursday. Proceeds will support the Last Stop Program, providing emergency financial assistance for seniors. Those who RSVP'd should have received communication about the change. STORY 4: Cherokee Firefighter Graduates from Public Safety Training
Fire Apparatus Operator Drew Turner of Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services recently graduated from the Georgia Public Safety Training Center and was sworn in as a deputy sheriff. Turner, also an advanced EMT and fire investigator, was deputized by Sheriff Frank Reynolds, allowing him to use law enforcement capabilities. His dedication was praised by Fire Chief Eddie Robinson. Turner has also been selected for a full-time role in the fire department's investigations team, which determines fire causes in Cherokee County. The department expressed pride in Turner's achievements and his continued community impact.
STORY 5: Cherokee Career Expo connects employers and job seekers
The Cherokee Office of Economic Development held its annual Cherokee Career Expo on September 25 at the Northside Hospital Cherokee Conference Center in Canton. The event connected local job seekers with top Cherokee employers, offering a range of career opportunities and on-site interviews. Participating employers included the Cherokee County School District, LGE Community Credit Union, and others. This expo is part of the COED's Work In Cherokee campaign, which encourages residents to work locally and reduce commuting time.

STORY 6: Cherokee Schools SAT Scores Top State and National Averages
The Cherokee County School District's Class of 2024 achieved an average SAT score of 1083, surpassing both state and national averages by 53 and 88 points, respectively. This places CCSD in the top 10% of districts statewide. Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis praised the students' academic success and the dedication of teachers. Each of CCSD's six traditional high schools exceeded state and national averages, with scores ranging from 1058 to 1101. Despite a slight decrease in average scores from 2023, CCSD increased student participation to 57%. The district remains committed to high-quality education and student achievement.
STORY 7: Week 7 Football Games Postponed for Inclement Weather
Week 7 of the 2024 high school football season in Cherokee County has been disrupted by weather, with games postponed due to Hurricane Helene. River Ridge and Sequoyah will play on October 18, while Creekview, Woodstock, Cherokee, and Etowah are set to play this Saturday, pending approval. The storm is expected to impact Georgia after making landfall in Florida. As a precaution, Cherokee County School District closed schools and offices on September 26 and 27, canceling all activities.
