Sustainable aviation fuel could create regional jobs - Air NZ

Air New Zealand said sustainable aviation fuel or SAF made locally from waste wood could create hundreds of new regional jobs and help with Aotearoa's fuel resilience and security. The national carrier said preliminary findings from a feasibility study show that SAF made from waste and low value wood products could meet up to a quarter of domestic aviation fuel needs. As an industry it has the potential to contribute hundreds of millions of dollars a year to New Zealand's economy. Earlier this year Air New Zealand made headlines by becoming the first major airline to ditch its 2030 carbon emissions reduction target. It had committed to a cut of 29 percent compared to a 2019 baseline. Air New Zealand chief sustainability officer, Kiri Hannifan spoke to Lisa Owen.
