Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 17 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Monday morning 21 October 2024.
Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is mostly cloudy and a cool 21 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning.
In Netball: Australia’s horror New Zealand hoodoo rolls on, with the Diamonds suffering a record 14-goal loss to the Silver Ferns yesterday.
Australia’s worst Constellation Cup loss in more than a decade at TSB Bank Arena in Wellington 50-64 sees Diamonds Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich slump to an eighth loss in nine games in New Zealand - and is the highest regular time score, ever set by the Silver Ferns against Australia.
In Rugby League: Bombastic Fijian Wing, Maika Sivo’s time at Parramatta is drawing to a close, with the flyer set to reunite with former Coach Brad Arthur in the Super League.
That’s according to Bulldogs General Manager Phil Gould, who said on Channel NINE’s coverage of Fiji’s Pacific Championships loss to Papua New Guinea that Sivo, is “close to signing over in England with Leeds.”
Sivo is contracted until 2027 but has been given permission to seek opportunities elsewhere, as the Jason Ryles era begins at Parramatta.
Meanwhile, Broncos superstar Ezra Mam’s A$4Million contract is reportedly at risk of being terminated, after he was involved in a car crash in Brisbane on Friday night.
Police are awaiting results of a second drug test, after the Broncos playmaker allegedly failed an initial roadside test.
Mam was hospitalised following the two-car collision and The Daily Telegraph is reporting Michael Maguire is set to clamp down on player conduct, ahead of his first season at the helm of the Broncos.
In Football: Wolves drew first blood with Strand Larsen finding the net, only for Josko Gvardiola to level the score. Yet just when it appeared Manchester City might concede two crucial points after 95 minutes of play, up rose Center-back John Stones to seal the win with a headed goal from a corner.
In Sports Biz: The latest Netflix subscribers total at 282.7 million, cements its place by far, as the largest platform in the streaming industry.
Netflix reported third-quarter financial results last Thursday that included a 1.8% increase in subscribers, a 15% lift in revenue to US$9.8Billion and a 41% boost in net income to US$2.4B.
Each of those measures beating Wall Street expectations, so big bonuses all round girls!
In the NFL: The Green Bay Packers signed Kicker, Brandon McManus just five days earlier, yesterday afternoon the veteran was the hero; drilling a 45-yard field goal on the final play of the game, to give the Packers a 24-22 win over the Houston Texans.
Green Bay won its third straight game and improved to 5-2, while Houston fell to 5-2.
And finally in Boxing: Tim Tszyu’s boxing career is over after the Australian suffered a stunning third-round TKO loss to IBF Junior Middleweight Champion Bakhram Murtazaliev in Orlando yesterday.
Tszyu was handed a brutal reality check, with Murtazaliev dominating from the get go, knocking Tszyu down three times in the second round, with the Australian barely making it to the bell and checked on by the doctor before being cleared to continue.
Oh boy Tszyu, you need a break in the sun in Fiji.
And that’s a wrap peeps!
