Fantasy Baseball Live! – December 8, 2024
Segment 1 – News and Notes
1.The A’s stunned the baseball world, or at least me, by spending money. They signed Luis Severino for three years and $67 million. I wrote a long post about him for our Patreon members. What are your thoughts on the signing?
a.I’ve seen comments on Justin’s 365 page that he’s on the Do Not Draft list. Do you agree?
2.The Orioles were busy adding some right-handed power, signing Tyler O’Neill to a three-year 49.5 million.
a.What does the Orioles outfield look like?
b.O’Neill has some nasty splits. Last year with the Red Sox, he hit home runs, but 16 of them came against LHP in 156 PA and 15 in twice a many at-bats against RHP. Plus, he hit .317 against LHP and only .208 against righty.
c.They also add Gary Sanchez to a one-year deal for $8.5 million. His splits are there two, but not as severe as O’Neill
3.The Giants make a splash by signing Willy Adames to a seven year, $182 million deal.
a.What are your thoughts on this deal?
4.I hate to discuss rumors, but John Heyman, who is a shill for Scott Boras, is reporting that contract discussions are approaching $700 million. Crazy stuff. Final call…where does he sign?
5.The Mets signed Clay Holmes for three-years and $38 and want to make him a starter. Maybe they are taking a chapter at how the Royals developed Seth Lugo into a starter. What do you think?
Segment 2 – Fantasy Baseball Questions of the AL East
1.Boston Red Sox
a.Triston Casas – 2025 stat line: HR, BA and RBI
b.Who would you rather draft and roster for 2025: Ceddanne Rafaela (#172 ADP) or David Hamilton (#467 ADP)?
i.If it’s Hamilton, are you worried that one of the big prospects will steal playing time away from him?
c.Does Yoshida get enough at-bats to warrant a roster spot? His ADP is 534
d.Tanner Houck (#212 ADP) and Kutter Crawford (#251) pitched well last season. Who would you rather draft?
e.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)
2.New York Yankees
a.Jasson Dominguez and Dylan Crews are going nine slots away. Who would you rather own?
i.Jasson Dominguez stat line: AB, HR, SB
b.For all the heat Giancarlo Stanton takes, he’s had four seasons of 25 home runs in averaging 110 to 120 games. Last season, he hit 27 in 114 games. Is the consistent power worth the low 200s average and diminished RBI/runs because of lack of playing time? Do you take him in the 20th round and pair him with someone else to play the other 40 games he’ll miss? Together, you could have a 30/90 player that you get late.
c.Who is least likely to be in the starting lineup on opening day (DJ LeMahieu or Trent Grisham)? According to RosterResource, both are slated to be starters.
d.Clarke Schmidt put up great numbers last season – 93K in 85.1 IP and a 2.85 ERA. He’s a cutter/sweeper guy and both are pretty good pitches. His xERA is 3.78. Is this someone you are interested in?
i.We will look at where he’s going and pitchers around him. He’s going in the 15th round and is the #90 pitcher off the board – 70 to 75 starter.
e.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors)

×Fantasy Baseball Live – January 19, 2025 @ 11:30 PM ET Segment 1 – News and Notes 1.Well, the Dodgers land yet another potential high-end Japanese talent. On Friday, Roki Sasaski announced that he would be a Dodger. You have him going to the Padres. I had him going to either the Padres or Dodgers. I thought it was the Dodgers when I realized they didn’t have ANY money committed to other International signees. a.Your thoughts on the signing. b.I’m assuming we will see Jack Flaherty and others now sign. 2.Tanner Scott sign the Dodgers. Segment 2 – Second Base Preview 1.How are you approaching this position for your upcoming drafts? 2.We will break down the top 15 to 20 in detail. Then, go through 20 to 30 in less detail. We will end by jumping around the remaining ranked players. 3.Which player not in the Top 10 has a chance to emerge there next season? 4.Which Top 10 player will not be there next season? 5.Give me a couple of sleepers 6.Give me one, maybe two guys you are just going to avoid drafting?…

Fantasy Baseball Live – January 11, 2025 @ 12:30 PM ET Segment 1 – News and Notes 1.The Giants sign Justin Verlander to a one-year, $15 million contract. Remember him? He’s got to be better, right? Stat line for 2025: IP, Wins, Ks, and ERA. a.BTW, I heard the Orioles pursued, but once again, Verlander showed no interest. 2.The Reds acquired Gavin Lux from the Dodgers for OF Mike Sirota and the Reds’ Competitive Balance Round A selection (pick 37). a.As we discussed, the Dodgers were likely to move on from Lux, and they did. But is he a fit for the Reds? i.Let’s look at their starting infield. b.Do you like the deal for Reds? c.Does this move Kim up on your draft rankings? 3.The Rangers sign Chris Martin. He was pretty good over the past two seasons with the Red Sox. He’s 38 but will be playing in his hometown. a.Do you think he could sneak some saves this season? 4.The Blue Jays signed Jeff Hoffman last night to a $33 million, 3-year deal. It wasn’t a big signing, but it’s being reported that the Blue Jays indicate he might get the chance to close. a.What say you. b.A lot of people don’t remember that the Blue Jays originally drafted him ninth overall in 2014 but then sent him packing to Colorado for Troy Tulowitzki. Yet, another in a long list of Rockies’ pitcher experiments. Segment 2 – First Base Preview 1.How are you approaching this position for your upcoming drafts? 2.We will break down the top 15 to 20 in detail. Then, go through 20 to 30 in less detail. Fantasy Baseball Live – January 5, 2025 Segment 1 – News and Notes 1.Apparently, Jack Flaherty is a no, so the Orioles sign 41-year-old Charlie Morton. The off-season is not going as planned for the Orioles. Thoughts? 2.The Dodgers sign KBOer Hyesong Kim, not to be confused with Ha-Seong Kim. What can you tell us about him? a.In a corresponding move, the Dodgers DFA Diego Cartaya, which means he’s off their 40-man and free to sign with any MLB team. 1:47:24Fantasy Baseball Live – December 29, 2024 Segment 1 – News and Notes 1.The Nationals acquired Nathanial Lowe from the Rangers for LHP Robert Garcia. The Rangers then signed Joc Pederson to a 2-year, $37 million contract with an opt-out after the first year a.First, what did you think of the Nationals' move? Lowe wasn’t very good last season but was fairly consistent prior to that. i.For those thinking that Andres Chaparro would get a chance, that appears to not be in the cards. b.The move allows the Rangers to move Jake Burger full-time to first and then park Pederson as the strong-side platoon DH. What do you think of the Rangers lineup? c.Does Robert Garcia get a boost in value with the chance to be the closer in Texas? Or was he your favorite in Washington for saves? 2.The Diamondbacks signed Corbin Burnes for 6-years and 210 million. a.Burnes is on a four-year decline in his strikeout rate and only struck out 8.4 per nine last season. Plus, after a stellar first half, he posted a 3.69 ERA in the second half. Are you all in with Burnes in 2025, or do you have some reservations? i.Is he worth an early third-round pick (6th starter off the board)? ii.Are you particularly concerned about his move to the NL West and Arizona? 3.The Dodgers re-signed Teoscar Hernandez for three years and $66 million with $23 million deferred. Jeff Passan said it best…the Dodgers are a machine. They get who they want. What do you think? 4.The Red Sox signed Walker Buehler to a one-year, $21.05 million contract. He’s coming off this second TJS and struggled in 16 starts for the Dodgers last season. He posted a 5.38 ERA, striking out 7.7 per nine. a.Stat line for 2025: IP, K, wins, and ERA 5.The Tigers do things that I don’t understand. They signed Javier Baez to a huge contract a few years back, and it will turn out to be one of the worst deals in the modern era. Now, they have signed Gleybar Torres to a one-year deal ($15 million). I know people say there are no bad one-year deals, but it clogs up an already full infield. a.Give me the starters in the infield and lose out on playing time. Segment 2 – NL West Fantasy Questions 1.Arizona Diamondbacks a.Corbin Carroll will be more like the 2024 first-half player or the 2024 second-half player in 2025? i.Stat line for 2025: HR, SB, and BA b.Jordan Lawlar will take over the shortstop role of ______________ (looking for a date)? c.Is Alek Thomas nothing more than a fourth outfielder or do you think he can develop into something more? d.Justin Martinez had a nice run of closing games in August but didn’t save a game after September 3. He’s going as the 20th closer off the board. Do you think there is value in this pick? e.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors) 2.Colorado Rockies a.Brenton Doyle was one of the surprise blow-up players last season. He went 23-30 with a .260 batting average. Give me his stat line for 2025: HR, SB, and BA i.We will see where he is going and if it seems reasonable. b.Nolan Jones cost you a fourth-round pick in 2024. After injuries and poor playing when he was healthy, he will only cost you a 17th-round pick. Am I nuts to think there could be sneaky value here? c.One of your guys last season was Ezequiel Tovar. He popped 26 home runs, stole six bases, but only posted a .295 OBP. He’s going as the 12th shortstop off the board. Too rich, or do you like the value here? d.Are there any starting pitchers you are interested in drafting this season? i.Who do you like as the favorite for saves? e.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors) 3.Los Angeles Dodgers a.The Dodgers will win _________ games in 2025? b.Yes or No. Gavin Lux will be the starter at second base for the Dodgers on July 1? i.Stat line: HR, SB, and BA c.Shohei Ohtani i.Hitting Stats: HR, SB, and BA ii.Pitching Stats: IP, Wins, Ks, and ERA d.Number of starts by pitcher i.Snell - 24 ii.Yamamoto - 25 iii.Glasnow - 19 iv.Gonsolin - 18 v.May - 5 vi.Ohtani - 18 vii.Sasaki – 18 or 20 viii.Bobby Miller – 16 ix.Landon Knack – 14 x.Emmet Sheehan and Robleski – 15 e.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors) 4.San Diego Padres a.Jackson Merrill 2025 Stat Line: HR, SB, BA b.RosterResource has Tirso Ornelas and Eguy Rosario listed as starters. That doesn’t stick, does it? c.Do you feel good about a team when you draft Luis Arraez, or do you feel like you screwed up in the draft? d.Michael King was great last season with 13 wins, a 2.95 ERA, and 201 strikeouts in 173.2. e.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors) 5.San Francisco Giants a.I know this will seem strange, but Jung Hoo Lee is one of my Outfield Targets this season. He’s going as the 63rd outfielder. Am I going to be disappointed if I decide to grab him as my fourth or fifth outfielder? b.Is Grant McCray worth a spec pick this season? His ADP is 739.44. c.Tyler Fitzgerald was great last season. In 96 games, he hit 15 home runs and stole 17 bases. Over 162 games, that’s a 23 HR, 27 SB guy. Yet, nobody seems to believe as his ADP is 237.87 (16/17 Round). d.Kyle Harrison 2025 stat line: IP, Wins, Ks, ERA e.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors) 6.Who wins the NL West and how many teams make the playoffs?…

1:49:43Fantasy Baseball Live – December 22, 2024 Segment 1 – News and Notes – Trades and Signings 1.The first basemen who are available are getting jobs. a.The Astros signed Christian Walker for 3 years and $60 million. i.The new-look Astros have Isaac Paredes at third and Walker at first. In the outfield, there is Jake Myers, Chas McCormack, and a yet-to-be-hired left fielder. How are you feeling if you’re an Astros fan? ii.Do you think the Diamondbacks will go to battle with Pavin Smith at first base? 1.The answer is no, as they acquired Josh Naylor from the Guardians for RHP Slade Cecconi and the 2nd round balance pick. Then the Guardians turn around and sign old favorite, Carlos Santana a.What is the thinking here with the Guardians? b.Kyle Manzardo appears to be heading for DH duties. Is this good for fantasy manages long-term? c.Do you like this for the Diamondbacks? b.The Yankees appear to have signed Paul Goldschmidt, signing the 37-year-old to a one-year $12.5 million contract. He’s a perfect fit for the Yankees as he’s the right age. Is there anything left? i.Stat line for 2024 – HR, RBI, SB, and BA ii.I love the fact that the Cardinals moved on here. They’ll move Willson Contreras to first and give full-time at-bats to Ivan Herrera. I’m a fan of Herrera. What are your thoughts? 2.The Yankees also acquired Cody Bellinger from the Cubs for RHP Cody Poteet. The Cubs will pay $5 million to offset the deal. This was a salary dump to eliminate some of the outfield depth the Cubs didn’t need. a.Bellinger is a dead pull hitter with poor exit velocities and a ton of leverage. He should be better in Yankees stadium, but is it enough to interest you in Drafts? He is the 28th outfielder off the board and has increased since the trade. Are you interested? Will we look at the players going around him? b.Let’s see what we think about the Yankees opening day lineup - RosterResource 3.The Phillies sign Max Kepler to a one-year, $10 million contract. He’s not the same player he was a few years ago, as the exit velocities are off, and last year, he rarely walked. You typically don’t see the fall-off he had last season in his walk rate, so there could be some positive correction. However, with the bat speed down, players will get more anxious. His ADP is 639.51. Is there any value left? Maybe a flier in a Draft and Hold League? 4.The Orioles sign Tomoyuki Sugano. Can you give us a scouting report? a.Let’s look at the Orioles Opening Day rotation. 5.Early this morning, the Phillies acquired Jesus Luzardo from the Marlins for…wait for it…more prospects. Returning is SS Starlyn Caba and OF Emaarion Boyd a.Luzardo was injured a lot last season and only started 12 games for the Marlins. He was the big talk this time last year, but the Marlins held onto him. He has two more years of team control. b.Do you like this for the Phillies? c.Stat line for 2025 – GS, Ks, and ERA Segment 2 – AL East Fantasy Questions – Ray and Blue Jays 1.Tampa Bay Rays a.Junior Caminero’s stat line for 2025: AB, HR, RBI and BA b.Josh Lowe was one of your guys last season, but only got 50 plate appearances against LHP. He’s the 40th outfielder off the board. Any interest? We will look at other outfielders going where he is. c.Does Christopher Morel get full-time at-bats for the Rays? i.Over-under 25 home runs? ii.Over-under .220 batting average. d.McClanahan is 18 months removed from TJS, but remember, it’s his second one. He’s the 46 pitcher off the board or the 35th starter off the board. Is he worth the gamble as a high-end number three starter? i.McClanahan (46), Baz (67), Springs (95). Order these three in how you would draft them. e.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors) 2.Toronto Blue Jays a.I’m doing my Draft Targets for our Patreon members. I released first base over the weekend and wrote many glowing words about Vlad Jr., something I haven’t done much over his career. I love the setup, though. He has enormous power, still young and in his walk year. What are your thoughts? i.If Soto signs for $600 to $700 and Vlad Jr. will be just 26 when he enters free agency, is he at least a $500 million player? b.Joey Loperfido stat line for 2025 – AB, HR, BA, and RBI i.BTW, Loperfido is two months younger than Vlad Jr. and his career is just getting started. Let that sink in… c.George Springer’s career is winding down and he’s now going as the 59th outfielder off the board. He hit 19 home runs and stole 16 bases last season. Any interest? d.Kevin Gausman is the 63rd pitcher off the board – a late number three, early four starter. He pitched to a 3.83 ERA, but the strikeouts were down. i.Are you interested in Gausman next season. ii.I’ve looked at his baseballsavant page and will do a breakdown of him. There are warning signs. e.Give me a sleeper in the organization (minor or majors) 3.Who wins the AL East and how many teams advance to the playoffs? Close…
