It's pretty clear we need to change course when it comes to our energy policy. Dan Malburg, who has worked in the nuclear energy field for a good long time, and who now serves as Senior Maintenance Instructor for nuclear power plants, joined us to explain why nuclear is our answer. Here are some highlights:
3:00 - reasons nuclear is important: reliability, availability, and footprint
7:30 - addressing safety concerns
11:45 - an update on the restart of Michigan's Palisades nuclear power plant
15:45 - modern upgrades for operations and safety
17:30 - where things stand with Palisades - power generation once again in about a year
19:45 - the potential addition of small modular reactors at Palisades - transmission is the key
21:45 - emergency response
23:15 - spent fuel handling and the need to educate the public
Dan is a true wealth of knowledge, so tune in for the whole thing!
As a Michigan Tech grad, he also requests that you check out Huskies for Common Sense, and we're happy to support their mission: https://huskiesforcommonsense.org/
