The War and Treaty’s Michael and Tanya Trotter grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington, DC, respectively, but both have family roots in the South. They also grew up in the musical traditions of their churches – Tanya in the Black Baptist Church and Michael in the Seventh Day Adventist Church – where they learned the power of song to move people. After becoming a father at a very young age, Michael eventually joined the armed forces and served in Iraq and Germany, where he took up songwriting as a way of dealing with his experiences there. Meanwhile Tanya embarked on a singing and acting career after a breakthrough appearance in Sister Act 2 alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Lauryn Hill. Now, after a long and sometimes traumatic journey, Michael and Tanya are married, touring, winning all sorts of awards, and set to release their fifth album together, and their fourth as The War and Treaty. Sid talks to Michael and Tanya about the new record, Plus One , as well as their collaboration with Miranda Lambert, what it was like to record at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, and how they’re blending country, soul, gospel, and R&B. If you’ve been following along this season, you’ve likely just finished listening to Dirt Creek by Hayley Scrivenor. In this bonus episode, you’ll get to hear an exclusive sneak peek of Girl Falling , Hayley's next book , which will be released March 11th. You can pre-order Girl Falling here .
Welcome back to Season 10 of Case Closed. We're starting the year with Hayley Scrivenor’s Dirt Creek , a small-town mystery with ‘sharp-edged tempers, accidents waiting to happen, and dark inheritances’. You won’t want to miss this one. Who's lying about what happened at Dirt Creek? When twelve-year-old Esther disappears on the way home from school in a small town in rural Australia, the community is thrown into a maelstrom of suspicion and grief. As Detective Sergeant Sarah Michaels arrives in town during the hottest spring in decades and begins her investigation, Esther’s tenacious best friend, Ronnie, is determined to find Esther and bring her home. When schoolfriend Lewis tells Ronnie that he saw Esther with a strange man at the creek the afternoon she went missing, Ronnie feels she is one step closer to finding her. But why is Lewis refusing to speak to the police? And who else is lying about how much they know about what has happened to Esther? Punctuated by a Greek chorus, which gives voice to the remaining children of the small, dying town, this novel explores the ties that bind, what we try and leave behind us, and what we can never outrun, while never losing sight of the question of what happened to Esther, and what her loss does to a whole town. We’ll release two new episodes every week beginning January 21st! Make sure to subscribe to Case Closed to get notified each week as episodes drop. We don't want you to miss anything. Be sure to listen or download by March 6th so you can hear the whole twisty story. Can't wait until next week? You can find Dirt Creek , read by Sophie Loughran, wherever audiobooks are sold.…
