Does WWE have a Roman Reigns problem? The most polarizing figure in professional wrestling certainly gets a reaction out of fans, but is it the one he and Vince McMahon want? Reigns seems to think any reaction is a good reaction. Graham Flanagan and Ben Stark talk it out, each of them taking a ‘side’ in the would-be Reigns predicament. Graham thinks WWE is finally on to something with his character, especially after the latest ‘Monday Night Raw,’ whereas Ben has issues with how the company has booked the supposed ‘hero’ in various storylines. Ben traveled to New York City to visit his brother and Business Insider producer Graham Flanagan but to also join him in catching SummerSlam and NXT Takeover at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The brothers recap the weekend with their top five favorite moments, including an instant classic match, a pair of glorious entrances and a rowdy live crowd. They also talk about the recent “Talking Smack” incident in which The Miz lost it on Daniel Bryan, who said the Intercontinental champ wrestled “like a coward.” The Miz delivered a blistering promo many believed saw him break character. WWE split the brand, finally. They’ve got one week to show for it, so what do we think? Who won week one between Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live? Most fans would tell you Raw delivered one of its all-time best episodes yet with big wins from Finn Balor and Sasha Banks, while SmackDown couldn’t live up to its counterpart’s showy start. “The Professor” Will Nevin joins Ben this week to talk about the two episodes and where the shows will go from here, plus whether or not WWE is maximizing the potential of its talented roster. World Wrestling Entertainment held its long-awaited and highly anticipated brand split draft this week on its debut episode of “SmackDown Live,” and fans are split on the execution. Joining Ben to break it all down is our man in Cleveland, Daniel Wagner, who had a lot riding on the draft heading in. Did it leave him disappointed? Were there some positive takeaways? Daniel, a huge NXT fan, also talks about the ramifications the draft will have on the WWE’s former developmental territory, as it took stars like Finn Balor and Nia Jax but left others like Shinsuke Nakamura and Bayley out. Starting things off, though, is a look at the latest class action lawsuit against the WWE, this one filed by 50-plus pro wrestlers who allege their long-term neurological disorders are a result of negligence on the part of the company. The WWE suspended the new face of the company for 30 days due to a violation of their wellness policy. So what does that mean for Roman Reigns? The former champ is currently penciled in for the Battleground main event against his former Shield pals next month, and the suspension will be lifted by that point. But will we still see “the guy” in that match, and will his role in the company diminish at all once he returns? We dedicate far too much time in our lives to watching professional wrestling, so there’s little doubt we love the product. But like with any entertainment we love, there’s plenty to nitpick, and as would-be know-it-alls, we have all the answers, or we at least want to offer a little constructive criticism. Ben Stark joins us to talk about what all we hate about pro wrestling, be it the darker realities like misogyny and drug addiction or things about the product itself like poor storytelling and wasted potential. With a slew of young superstars climbing up the WWE roster and a handful developing in NXT, the future seems bright for professional wrestling’s top company. One must wonder about creative decisions as of late, including a stubborn push for Roman Reigns as top guy despite severe backlash from fans. We doubt if Vince McMahon cares, but we also know he sometimes changes direction if they fans voice displeasure. So far, that’s not the case, and even with the return of the company’s brightest star Seth Rollins, we wonder if the WWE won’t manage to bungle it. Not to say we won’t see Rollins put on incredible matches and delight fans as he once did prior to his devastating knee injury, we just hope he figures as prominently into the big picture as he did as champion. And what about the upcoming returns of established superstars John Cena and Randy Orton? Is there enough room on the card for the veterans and the rising stars, even with five hours of weekly television programming? We welcome Business Insider producer Graham Flanagan to talk this out, plus the WWE’s announcement that its Thursday night show “SmackDown” will soon air live on USA every week and how that’s a huge positive for the company. We class up the joint even more on this week’s episode of “Rammer Slammer” by inviting longtime Alabama sports broadcaster Chris Stewart to discuss his own fandom and how pro wrestling announcers may have even influenced his own career path. Stewart serves as play-by-play announcer for Alabama men’s basketball and baseball as well as football sideline reporter and host of “The Nick Saban Show.” Regular listeners of his weekday radio show “The Chris Stewart Show” (which airs 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tide 99.1-FM) might recall his midweek theme of “Wrestling Wednesdays,” in which the host and his producer (and fellow fan) Ryan McMunn play wrestling theme music and often drop references to the industry in good fun. Stewart talks about growing up a wrestling fan in the South and having to leave it behind with family responsibilities and a busy schedule. He also goes in depth about what he loves about wrestling announcing and how, if at all, it ever influenced his own path to success in the sports broadcasting industry. We also welcome Huntsville filmmaker and show regular Ben Stark to break down our own favorite wrestling announcers, rattling off names like Joey Styles, Jim Ross, Jesse Ventura, Bobby Heenan and Gorilla Monsoon. Payback delivered a bunch of solid matches, including the main event, which did current champion and “guy” Roman Reigns a lot of good. Ben welcomes “The Professor” Will Nevin to recap the latest WWE PPV, breaking down every match on the card, including the dreaded pre-show. They also talk about the company’s recent releases that include Hornswoggle, Alex Riley and, of all people, Damien Sandow. Ben Stark stops by to preview the WWE Payback pay-per-view. The big question on our minds looking ahead to Sunday night is this: Does Payback have a better card than WrestleMania 32? Free of any gimmick matches or part-timer participation, this looks like an old school wrestling-focused event that promises terrific in-ring storytelling. While WWE doesn’t always deliver on that promise, we merely hope this PPV gives its talented roster a solid three hours to showcase their athletic prowess and develop storylines more organically than we’ve seen in recent months. Will AJ Styles help Roman Reigns win over any fans? Is Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn the match of the night? Will the tag team tournament finals give the division its much-needed shot in the arm? The guys also break down things they like and dislike about current WWE storylines, including the status of the Intercontinental title and just what the heck they have in mind for Dean Ambrose moving forward. We welcome die-hard pro wrestling fan and Georgia native Dave Wills, best known to fans and otherwise as the “crying wrestling fan” featured on a viral YouTube video in which he famously shouts, “It’s still real to me, dammit!” Will loves wrestling. Ben Stark stops by to talk about Triple H’s current and long term roles in WWE moving forward, whether he’s an asset or a detriment to the overall company product. Nobody denies Triple H’s talent both in and out of the ring, and he’s made a huge impact on the future of the business thanks to his work on NXT. But should he play a major part in the in-ring storylines from now on? Does his run as WWE champion and face of the company feel forced, like he’s worn out his welcome? It’s all in the name of pushing Roman Reigns as the next top guy, but has anything Triple H and the WWE have done lately really make Reigns look very good? The brand new podcast “Rammer Slammer” continues with a topic that must drive some parents crazy: Should we let our children watch pro wrestling at a young age? Any adult who loves to watch wrestling probably started doing so during childhood, so their parents seemed to think it was OK for their young eyes. We talk to University of Alabama recreation executive director George Brown, a huge wrestling fan himself, about why he lets his youngest son watch and keep up with WWE characters and storylines and how he and his wife often talk about it. But we begin with the Titus O’Neil situation. The former tag team champ and Florida Gator is currently serving a 60-day suspension that will keep him out of WrestleMania after an incident that occurred during the Daniel Bryan retirement/career celebration weeks ago.
