Manage episode 470763110 series 2930063
Join us on The DMV Business Show with Otto Sevilla as we feature Joe Cody, the Founder of Grain Fertility, a care coordination and fertility patient navigation service. Grain Fertility aims to support patients undergoing fertility treatments and clinics by providing patient empowerment coaches, a secure application to organize treatment information, and guidance on navigating the complex process. The service is led by medical professionals who translate complex medical information into understandable language, making fertility treatment information accessible to patients.
Joe Cody grew up in St. Louis, fascinated by weather and science from a young age. He wanted to be a meteorologist, but opted instead for a degree in political science. This led him to work on Capitol Hill. Joe's childhood fascination with weather began when he witnessed a tornado in person in first grade. He still enjoys weather-related activities as a hobby. Interestingly, his interest in weather started at a young age, after which he co-founded Grain Fertility, employing a complex analytical approach to making fertility treatment information understandable and accessible to patients.
As Joe's background in politics and health policy came into play, he recounted his experience on Capitol Hill. His interest in fertility began after he got married and started trying to have kids. He discovered that infertility is common, expensive, and time-consuming, and was required to seek treatment from a reproductive endocrinologist. Ultimately, he and his partner had to use in vitro fertilization (IVF) to conceive, which was an overwhelming process due to the amount of information, finances, and emotional and physical impact on both partners.
Grain Fertility's approach to fertility treatment information is unique, employing patient empowerment coaches, a secure application, and guidance on navigating the complex process. Infertility is a common, expensive, and time-consuming process, requiring patients to seek treatment from a reproductive endocrinologist. The emotional and physical impact of IVF on partners should not be underestimated, highlighting the need for patient support and guidance throughout the process.
