The issue of colorism in the black diaspora is as old as slavery and colonialism itself. Any discussion of the topic brings up many painful incidents of childhood and every black person seems to have a story to tell about how it has affected their lives in some way. The various issues that exist around skin shade have affected the way that black people view themselves and each other.
