It's good to be back and on this edition of the bloody legends Jim and Myself catch up with Erik Caplan from the psychedelic/ stoner outfit Thunderbird Divine, to talk about the latest singles Crazy Horses and I'm Gonna Love You A little More Babe, and all things Thunderbird Divine. THUNDERBIRD DIVINE is comprised of four Philly rock veterans, previously members of WIZARD EYE (Black Monk Records) and SKELETON HANDS. Having crossed paths and frequently shared stages together, and Erik Caplan (WIZARD EYE) seeking to undertake a new project, the remaining members of SKELETON HANDS, who were now down a vocalist, seemed an obvious choice. The band's namesake was a homeless Vietnam veteran from Caplan's childhood neighborhood who called himself 'Thunderbird Divine' when he was inebriated. Drawing musical inspiration from the likes of MONSTER MAGNET, HAWKWIND and FLOWER TRAVELLIN' BAND, the quartet soon set to writing and recording its first album, Magnasonic. Released in 2019 via Salt of the Earth Records and Interstellar Smoke Records, it received acclaim in the doom world landing on the Doom Charts and garnering spots on several "Best of 2019" lists, most notably The Obelisk. Now, in 2023, THUNDERBIRD DIVINE are preparing for their next full-length due to be released in the fall of this year. With their new record set to continue the trend of incorporating a few less typical instruments including a didgeridoo, banjo, and hurdi gurdi, THUNDERBIRD DIVINE is holding nothing back as they continue to push experimental boundaries.
