There is one thing you should most definitely laugh at…
Thank you for calling GIH where we instigate growth one call at a time where we utilize antiquated technology to deliver 3-minute leadership lessons every week day! This is message #162 and I am Aaron Havens.
Listening to the messages from the call yesterday was fun for me. A couple things stood out to me about you the listeners. Towards the end of my recorded call yesterday I made a mistake and said “leave me a beep after the message” and then I corrected myself.
- Most of you, when leaving a message, started with and actual “beep”. It was funny. I should make a compilation of the different “beep” sounds.
- It was more of a observation. A lot of you listen to the Hotline message as you drive to work. That’s a good call. I’m honored to commute with you.
I aint gonna get this right all the time. Re-recorded another message wasn’t worth it. And the results were pretty raw and worth it.
I’ve learned that if you can’t laugh at this one thing… you’re life might be a ball of stress. What is this one thing you ask?… IT’S YOU!
Yep. When you made mistakes, do you give yourself permission to laugh at you a bit. Make a little fun of you. Throw your hands in the air and chuckle. If not, every little minor mistake (which I bet you have a few a day) may end up resulting in multiple existential crises moments. Sure, nobody likes mistakes. And since there has ever and will ever be 1 perfect person, that relieves the pressure for you to be Him. You’re human. I’m flawed. She’s flawed. He’s flawed. They are flawed. We’all… all of us make mistakes. So, maybe the best thing we can do is get a little laugh, make the minor adjustments and move on!
In doing some work putting this message together and looking at some stats I came across a quote from an unknown person that I really like. "Sometimes you have to laugh at yourself, because you’d cry your eyes out if you didn’t.”
So true! Where in your life are you taking yourself too seriously? And where can you let out a few smiles and chuckles to save the tears for the harder moments in life? So today, I give you a challenge. When you drop that thing on the floor, spill that drink, mis-spell a word, or in my case, say words backwards… don’t let those moments be negative self talk starters. Nah, let them be a much welcomed comic relief as you ease the tension for not only yourself, but for everyone else in the room. Laugh at yourself first and give others permission to do the same. It’s all good. Are you up for that challenge?
Thanks for calling in today. Tune in tomorrow for a fresh new topic. At the sound of the beep, let me know of a time you laughed at yourself. After the message leave me a beep… haha
