God gave Adam responsibilities and purpose for living; he was to maintain and care for the orchard in Eden.

God specifically told Adam not to eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If he ate, he would die. It is translated as, “in dying, you will die”.

In other words, God said that when he ate it, in dying spiritually, he would die physically.

When Adam disobeyed, sin separated him from God; this is spiritual death. The spirit, soul, and body of man will be separated from the power of God, and the body will begin to corrupt; from there, he will die physically.

Adam and Eve had the authority to take dominion or govern, rule over the fish, birds, and all the living things that moved.

God’s power flowed through them to rule over heaven, earth, and the sea.
